MISTI Monday October 2018 Challenge
Challenge Title: Layered Collage Look
Hostess: MISTI Monday
Keyword: MSP14
Date: October 1st, 2018
Happy October everyone! I’m so happy you’ve come to look at this month’s challenge. This year has really passed quickly and I’m kind of scratching my head, wondering where the last 3 months went.
Let’s get to it, shall we?
This month’s challenge is really fun. I recently acquired some new blending brushes from a friend and I was anxious to try them out. I wasn’t much of an ink blender because, no matter how hard I tried or practiced, my blending was choppy and I could never get a smooth transition of color. These brushes are INCREDIBLE. I felt like my ink blending was a work of art before I ever stamped on it!
My card this month used Gina K’s New Fruit of the Season kit, which is perfect for fall and winter. I first used my ‘L’ ruler from my Creative Corners to create my rectangle blending area (I used the width of the ruler and just came in from the sides that width and made my pencil marks. I ran my purple tape down along my pencil lines to mask this area.
After the area was blended, I just used various stamps from the kit to create a layered collage look. I used two inks: Gina K’s Prickly Pear and Sweet Corn. The Sweet Corn is the lightest layer of stamps. The Prickly pear was used for the darker stamped images (I used my MISTI to stamp the images more than once for a darker color) and for my ink blended background. I thought it would be neat to let some of the images go out of bounds to add interest. Lastly I embossed the snowflakes and sentiment in gold.
A great one-layer card, with depth and dimension, that really didn’t take too long to make. I used both MISTI and Creative Corners and the card went together so smoothly.
Your challenge this month is to create a layered collage look on your card front. You do not have to do any ink blending, but I’d like to see others’ take on the design layout. My card was for Christmas, but you could really use this technique for any occasion. Let’s see what you can come up with!
Thank you all for joining me in October and I wish you the best of luck winning the $50.00 gift card to My Sweet Petunia!

quick question, purple tape? You mean you can use this tape to mask and it won't damage the cardstock when you take it off?! ( can you tell I have done this before with many kinds of tape and it has not worked! LOLOLOL) ohhhhhhhh tell me more! LOL

I"m sorry but I do not understand how you did what you did to this card!
Could someone direct me to a video that shows HOW this is done?
I really don't understand using the corners (though I have them)

SueEllen,
I think what the purple tape is like painters tape. Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

I agree the blue tape does stick sometimes. Glad to here there is something better.
Looks like they sell it on Amazon.

I CASEd this card example pretty heavily. ( Thank You very much). I had not done this technique before and really like how it turned out. I dont often stick to a monochromatic idea, but I will certainly use this again!

Side note on the purple tape, you can clean it off of the ink and reuse it over and over again!

I honestly still do not understand how you made your sample. I decided to make what I think you wanted for a look. I enjoyed making this card, actually made 2 of them! Didn't have an orange oxide ink so had to use a pink color.

Today's colors worked so well for this month's MISTI challenge!!
Here is Coral Poinsettias!
I was able to use my mini MISTI to get the stamps in the right position for the bg and then to over stamp with a darker color!! The MISTI worked great to get the darker color I needed for the foreground stamping as I had to stamp the flowers a few times.

I'm working on my "Challenge Catch-Up" goal!
This is how I built my collage layered card: I started with a brushed, ink-blended background, followed by white heat embossing, black-line stamping, and Copic coloring. Then I added a popped and double layered sentiment panel.
Here is my card: Being A Dad is Whiskey Business!
