Default NY * Fall Stamping in CNY 11/3/18

CNY Stampers Get Together -- #26
Saturday, November 3 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00p.m.
First United Church of East Syracuse
823 Franklin Park Drive, East Syracuse

Please join us at our 26th CentralNew York Stampin' Get Together. Its a full day of stamping fun!

Cost - $25.00 per person ($27 via PayPal).Registrations must be paid no later than September 26. Mail registration form and payment to me (info is in the registration form). There are no refunds, but you may offer your spot to someone else.

There is a lot of info to digest but reading through it should help answer many questions. If clarification is needed, please ask. This thread is our main way to communicate with you and we are here to help! Its best to subscribe to this thread so that you see the updates. You will find final counts and other important info here on page 1 once the event is closed.

Mandatory Table Project (aka shoebox) - There will be table projects in the morning AND the afternoon, so bring your idea and all the supplies (in kits) needed for making your project with your table mates in the morning; another group will make your exact same card in the afternoon so please provide basic written instructions since you wont be there with your project. Your project stays stationary; youll do the moving. Your project should be a full card, including layers and embellishment(s), or any other project that involves stamping.

When our final count is in, you will know the table sizes and how many kits will be needed. You will also need four completed copies of your project. This will generally be a full card, with layers and embellishment(s) and should *NOT* take more than 5 to 10 minutes to complete. Please provide any special adhesive that's needed. So, just to say it another way: Bring 4 completed projects + make up 18 packets of materials **in kits** to make your project.Extra parts to fix any "oops" should also be provided.

NEW NOTE: Please DO NOT do stamping ahead of time. That takes the fun out of making your card! You can, however, do die cutting or punching or dry embossing that doesnt require stamping to be done beforehand.

Your project for the morning and afternoonshould be all the same. Please use only quality products and make thesesomething youd be thrilled to get yourself.

There will be 3 tables , each with 9 stampers. You'll stamp at two of the three tables.

NOTE: Because you will be switching tables, but your projects staying behind, it is CRITICAL that you provide basic directions for your project unless it is VERY obvious. Yes, I am repeating myself. Pleaseinclude your name and SCS name as well. Thank you!

Swaps - ALL SWAPS ARE OPTIONAL but participation in at least one is encouraged. Youll know how many to make when we post the final counts, and Youll have plenty of notice since the deadline is well in advance of the event. Most swaps will include a +1 for a door prize.

Swaps as usual, details will be found in the individual write-ups:<o:p>

--Recipe - Final Count 13 -- Post #10

--NVR Card Front - Final Count 22 -- Post #9

--SUO* - Final Count 15 -- Post #23<o:p
*Only current Stampin Up! products are to be used.

--Modified ATC (2-1/2 circle) - FinalCount 16-- Post #12

--2-1/2 Squares - Final Count 12 -- Post #8

--Wreath (must follow guidelines) - Final Count Just 1 -- Post#7

Food - Please indicate on the registration form the specific food item you will bring to share. The main dish lunch items and breakfast casseroles are always the hardest to fill so please consider one of those if you havent before. Please dont just say food or whatever you need. Ideas: breakfast items, lunch items, including salads, desserts and snacks. We love to try your homemade food specialties! Bottled water and coffee will be provided. BYO soda if you want it.

Make & Take for All - Because of doing shoebox projects in the a.m. and p.m., we will have only one or two large group projects. If you have a great idea for one, please tell me what it is.

Garage Sale - Bring your stamps and stamping supplies to sell or trade. Current Stampin Up! items must be offered for trade only; you can sell retired items. Sorry but we cant be responsible for missing items so bring things at your own risk.

Goodie Bags - for everyone! Goodie bags will all have the same value but may have some variation in colors, etc. You know it will be great.

Door Prizes - Donations from our group are most welcome and much appreciated. Let me know if youd like to make a door prize donation and what it is. Our participants are always so generous! Please DONT wrap your door prize donations. The +1s from the swaps as well as the extra sets from the shoebox projects will be awarded as door prizes. Well have another 50/50 raffle to support the event for next time as well.

Gift Swap - You dont have to sign up for this one, but if you would like to participate, bring a wrapped gift related to our stamping passion. Everyone who brings a WRAPPED gift to swap will also leave with one. Value on these should be in the $5-10 range, and hand-crafted projects are always appreciated! If its something youd like to take home, its probably perfect! Be sure to include your name somewhere inside so the lucky winner knows who to thank. Wrap it up prettily to encourage stealing.REMEMBER: Hand-crafted or stamping-related, please!!!

Other - Please bring your own labeled items for your personal stamping needs, including your favorite adhesive. These are the items you just cant stamp without, like: bone folder, paper cutter/scorer, scissors, straight edge, stamp cleaner and whatever else you can't stamp without! Did I say adhesive????? Adhesive! You are likely to need more than you think.

Name tags - Labels will be available for name tags but feel free to make your own if you'd rather.

Don't forget your camera!

REMEMBER: Complete the registration form and forward with your $25 payment ($27 via PayPal) by September 26. All funds collected will be spent on the event. Your registration is complete when your payment is received. If you have any questions, please ask! Looking forward to seeing you in November.

Swap Etiquette -- These are some good general guidelines that I found on SCS. I hope everyone will take these guidelines seriously so that we all make and receive wonderful swaps!

These are also good guidelines to keep in mind for your shoebox project, except that you're providing materials to make a full card rather than just a front and you won't need a "recipe" (but you do need directions).

1) Quality work -- This isn't about the quantity of layers or embellishments (please do use a MINIMUM of one embellishment and two layers), or whether you are new at this or not. "Quality" means straight cuts with no crooked, fuzzy edges, tears, wrinkles, etc. (unless that is part of the design), attaching your layers straight (again, unless part of your design), stamping images clearly with fully inked stamps, etc. If you make a noticeable mistake while stamping your swaps, turn the cardstock over, or cover with another layer. Last of all, quality means to use cardstock that is a nice weight not some flimsy stuff that has the feel of construction paper.

2) "Recipes" -- appreciated but not required. This means: your SCS name; your IRL name; listing the colors, stamp sets and embellishment you used; any techniques or tips you want to include. If you choose not to include a recipe, please include at least your name so we know who made your fab creation. Avery labels work great, but a plain piece of paper or your personalized stamp work just as well.

3) There is just one swap requiring all current Stampin' Up! products this time so please be sure to read before committing. All other swaps can use any quality stamps, cardstock, inks, etc. This is not the time to unload your cheap cardstock! Please, nothing flimsy!

4) Would you like to receive your swap or make your shoebox project? Then it's PERFECT!

5) Swap sizes: NVR & SUO card fronts -- a bit smaller than 4.25 x 5.5 suggested. Recipes swaps are 6x6. Other swap size specifics are noted in the write ups.

Please ask any questions you might have and someone will be sure to answer. We have all made a lot of great friends getting together at these gatherings so we hope you’ll join us at this one!

Resummarizing: Layers - at least two! Dig into those embellishments, give your fellow swappers a real treat! Put those punches to work! Have fun, try something different! Show some pride and put your name on the back!!

Swapping will likely be around lunch time.

Food Info -- Please remember when making/purchasing your food item that you do not need enough to feed an army. The main dish lunch items and breakfast casseroles are always the hardest to fill so please consider one of those if you haven’t before.

There is usually a very nice variety coming: donuts - cake - muffins - sticky buns - cookies - brownies - candy - chips & dip - specialty dips - casseroles/main dish items - salads and side dishes - bread & butter - cheese & crackers - fruit - and more.

So, my suggestion is to make/bring a "normal" amount not a super size. I am sure there will still be leftovers but everyone should be able to find something they like. If you don't believe that to be the case, please feel free to pack your own lunch. We do have a refrigerator and stove available and there are plenty of outlets to plug in crockpots. There will NOT be a microwave available unless someone brings it!

DIRECTIONS to First United Church of East Syracuse, 823 Franklin Park Drive. Get the specifics from a mapping site if you need them. But, generally speaking, most everyone will be taking Rte. 481 (from 81, 690 or 90) and exiting at Kirkville Road WEST (exit 5W). Franklin Park Drive is way less than a mile from the exit and will be on your right. After the exit, you will pass one light, two gas stations at the corner where the light is, and a school (Bishop Grimes). The church is just a short way up Franklin Park Drive and will also be on your right. Parking and entry is in the BACK.

If you have headed in the wrong direction on Kirkville Road and get to that light, you will see a church on your left and houses on the right. That's Fremont Road; turn around and come back the other way.

Other Important Stuff

When the event closes, this first page is where you will find all the updated info on the swaps, etc. Info will be updated as registrations arrive and the final details should be posted shortly after the deadline.

Shoebox Project -- Some hints and some pleas:
** Your shoebox project (AND all swaps) should be AT LEAST *2* layers and it should include an embellishment, unless the design absolutely won't allow for this.

** Please "kit" your items. What does this mean? Place all pieces of card stock, embellishments, etc. needed to make your project into an envelope or baggie for each person. Why? (1) It protects your supplies from damage, like stray ink splotches. (2) It prevents random grabbing of your supplies, thus ensuring enough for everyone at the table. Save those junk mail envelopes; they're perfect to hold your kits and won't cost you anything.

** Please place out enough packets for the MORNING (plus some extras for "oops"). You will set out your remaining supply for the afternoon. Why? Mainly because it ensures that there are enough supplies for the afternoon stampers. Yes, we have come up short in the past.

** Please do NOT get too crazy with your project. The time allotted per project is only 5 to 10 minutes, not 20! Why? Well, if all projects took 20 minutes to create, we'd be there stamping til midnight. While we are not on a strict schedule, the day does move along and everyone enjoys being able to take a real lunch break and participate in the swaps that usually surround lunchtime without stressing that they haven't finished all the morning table projects. Whew!

** While you don't want your project to be too complicated to be completed within 5 to 10 minutes, you also don't want it to be just sticking layers together. Please don't do stamping ahead of time because that kinda takes away the fun!

** A thought for you speedy stampers...I know that some of you are very quick and find yourselves at loose ends before the rest of your table is finished. May I suggest that you ASK those who've fallen behind if they would appreciate some help in getting some "parts" done to help them finish up?

** Slower stampers...Please don't be offended if someone offers to help you complete some "parts" or ask for some help if you see that others have finished. Remember that you can finish assembly at home if you have all the pieces stamped and otherwise prepped.

Gift Swap -- Wrap it up as nice as you please. "Snitching" encouraged as part of the fun. Your gift can be handmade or purchased, but please be sure that it is stamping related.

Tables -- Tables are assigned randomly when you arrive. If you really, really (really) need to be with your friend (I'm saying this more for the newbies), we will try to accommodate you but the random assignments really do make for a good way to make new friends. Plus, you and your friend(s) will have different projects to share. Well, unless you're randomly assigned to the same table set. Then, you're welcome to ask someone at another table to switch with you. You will be at one table in the morning and a different table (but with the same table mates) in the afternoon.

Default holiday wreath (single swap)

Only 1 wreath each!

Everyone makes one wreath and then we'll swap. Wreath should start with (at the minimum) a wreath base of 12 inches. The intent is something we could hang on our front door.

For the purposes of consistency we will all do a similar size. The material can be wood, raffia, grapevine or anything you chose. You may purchase or make your base. THEN
you need to decorate it. It can be painted, dried flowers, cloth leaves or bunches of tulle, you decide...maybe even some stamping!

I have done some research at AC Moore. grapevine is $3.99, raffia is $4.99 and Styrofoam is $7.99 for a 14-16 inch wreath. And then you can use a coupon, this week it's 50% off!

You will be creating a 2.5 inch square (PLEASE NOTE THAT IS SLIGHTLY LARGER THAN PREVIOUS SQUARE SWAPS). The dimensions are larger so you can mount these into a 9 inch square shadowbox frame. With this in mind, you can create your square without worrying about thickness, you can use layers and add embellishments without wondering if it will fit in the frame! Make sure you use quality paper with even and neat cuts so we will have a lovely piece of art to showcase.<o:razz:<o:razz:<o:razz:<o:razz:<o:razz:< o:razz:<o:razz:<o:razz:<o:razz:<o:razz:<o:razz:<o: razz:<o:razz:

Modified ATC Coin (2-1/2” circle) Theme for this swap is either Holiday or other gift giving occasion. The 2 1/2 coin must be a base of chipboard (or multiple layers of cardstock);the coin should have some stamped image or words and have at least one embellishment. Since some folks may wish to use the coin as a gift tag, you may wish to consider leaving the back of the coin blank. You can attach the coin to a traditional ATC card (3 1/2 x 2 1/2) and sign the back with your contact information. You can look in Pinterest for ATC coins, Craftyhodges or just Google for insights, tutorials and inspiration!

Thanks, Catherine, for getting the SUO swap posted. Apparently I only "wished" it into being when I said all the swaps had been listed.

Is anyone else having trouble printing out the registration form? Tried all my tricks... still bombing out.

I didn't have a problem. I know you have, but did you enable editing?

In case anyone else has difficulty with the Word registration form, I've just uploaded a PDF. Hope that's helpful.

I truly appreciate everyone's patience as I get payments noted and the first email out about the swaps. I apologize that it's taking me roughly 10X longer than usual to get things done, but I'm grateful that it's not 20X. Surgery is not for the faint-hearted or those lacking good organizational skills.

I'll extend the deadline a few days to see if there are a few more who are interested; but, meanwhile, please get your payments in. Thanks.

As usual, we are lacking in "main dish" breakfast and lunch items.

I'm waiting on the last payments before posting that we are closed. However, I think the count of 25 in Post #6 may be it.

If you know of anyone who might be yet interested, please have them get in touch with me right away as a count of 27 would make for nice even tables.

I have a question about the modified coin swap. What is everyone using to cut out the chipboard? I am not sure if a thinlet or a paper punch will cut chipboard, so I am thinking something like a sizzix die? I have numerous circle dies--and yup, none are 2.5 inches.
