TLC708 ~ Beach Scene ~ (9/17/18)

We have one more week of summer and then it is officially fall. I thought it would be fun to create a summer scene for our last TLC challenge of the summer. You can grab any "beachy" image you have and build this simple scene around it. Keep in mind I am not an expert (or an artist) but here are my steps and I think it is fun in the end

First, I tear a piece of paper and use it as a mask for the water lines - I use the straight edge for the horizon and torn edge for the beach



Second, I color the sky an water. I have used Copics on this one (B00, B000, B0000 for the sky, and B01, B02, B04 for the water) but you could use any medium you prefer. I go back in a draw a few darker squiggles in the ocean (B05) and blend a bit but I don't worry too much about them right now...





Third, I flip the torn edge (the piece I used for the horizon) and mask the water. I fill in the sand with a base coat (I used E30). I some how didn't get a pic of this next step but you will see it in the final step. I next take sand colors and fill the sand area up with dots to create a look of sand (I used E40, E42, E31, E33, YR24).



Finally, and this is where it all comes together, I use a white gel pen and put dots of ink all over the dark squiggles and the beach line to look like foam, and light from the sun, and beach...

Lyn, this looks like super fun...I love beach scenes and this looks like a neat way to create one. And, my boss kindly rostered me off today to give an extra recovery day from last week's bug...so I have plenty of time to try this before the housework .

And here's mine...such fun to make. I'll hope to remember this as an option next time there's a challenge calling for white gel pen work - it really does add life.
