SEPTEMBER 2018 Mission - CARDS FOR A CAUSE
2018 Cards For A Cause
SEPTEMBER MISSION Stamp from the Heart!
ORGANIZATION BEING FEATURED: Kingston Health Care Center Description of Organization: Kingston is a Health Care center for the aging and would like to have cards on hand for residents to have and send to those they care about. Like most places that have an almost zero budget for these types of things. Pam's grandma is a resident at Kingston and requested cards for the center. Minutes after posting this Pam received word her grandmother had passed. Our sympathy and prayers to you and your family Pam.
CONTACT PERSON: Teresa - va.sunshine
Referred by: Pam - grateful2bsaved
TYPE OF CARDS: thank you, thinking of you, birthday, holiday, miss you, see you soon, get well, encouragement, any...please include envelopes.
SPECIAL RESTRICTIONS: do not include anything that may be considered “sharp”...such as metal, straight pins, or staples.
GUIDELINES: Please keep in mind, we are representing SCS by sending our cards each month. Recycling is always good, but only use products on your cards that you would like to receive on cards. Also, our card donations are not tax deductible and it is not required. Please do not ask for a receipt. There have been groups that will send thank you's but the "referred by" person keeps us informed and passes on the thank you's. Most of these organizations are volunteers and spend countless hours helping others, lets help make their jobs easier and bless them in helping others.

Thank you so much. The timing on this is eerie. I just got a call from the care home that Grandma passed away a few hours ago. (About 2:30 AM my time.) She went quickly, and in her sleep, so that is a blessing. She was 94. Of course, I plan on continuing to send them cards. The people who work there are so kind and loving. Mom and I are so grateful to them. Thanks again, everyone.

Pam, So sorry to hear of your grandmother's passing. I will be nice to honor your grandmother by sending some wonderful cards as a way to remember her. One question, should we leave the inside blank or add a short sentiment?

Either one will be fine. They are just happy to get them. Thanks for asking.
I'm so sorry Pam. I will definitely get some cards out this month, my mom lived in a nursing facility for six years before her passing last November. I always thought about working out a card ministry for them, but just never got it going.

Our prayers to you Pam! I'm definitely sending cards!
would clear plastic sleeves on the card be of value?
They used the sleeves at the "gift shop" at the center where my parents used to live.
Do you think the residents could use birthday cards for kids? I will need to make some additional cards to add to what I was able to pull from my stash. I likely can't do that or mail until much later this month. I am recovering from eye surgery that was harder than I thought it was going to be.

traingina: I think plastic sleeves always come in handy. Especially with the possibility of several people thumbing through cards. But they are absolutely not necessary.
Pat: I absolutely think they could use kids' birthday cards. I bet lots of them have grandkids or even great grandkids. I hope your recovery from your eye surgery goes quickly and painlessly. I think that has to be one of the scariest surgeries to have.
Thanks everyone for your kinds words, and cards. I struggle with the right words to express how grateful both Mom and I are for you ladies.

Pam, so sorry for your loss. The cards you receive will be a wonderful tribute to your grandmother. I'll be sending some cards. I've seen first-hand how a project like this can brighten and bring smiles to the residents.
So sorry for your loss Pam. Praying for your family. I'm in for making the cards. What a great cause.

Checking in. Thank you all so very, very much. It means a lot to mom and I. It's times like this that I wish I were better at putting my feelings into words.
I have 22 cards ready to mail today. I am pleased to participate to honor your grandmother. I definately think cards mean a lot to the older generations. They generally love to give and receive them.
Thank you Jer. Just wanted to pass on an email I got from Pam (at Kingston):
The cards are amazing and so thoughtful. Thank you so much. I’m keeping the addresses so as an activity I was going to have the residents make a card with all the great equipment we have from you to do that. So the residents can make a card for each one and sign it to thank all of you for the many beautiful cards.
PS: When she was talking about "equipment" she meant boxes of stamping stuff I sent. I've never heard it called "equipment" before. I guess I'd call them "tools", so "equipment" makes sense. LOL

Pam, I mailed 20 cards out this morning. They are assorted, with some having sentiments others blank. I included envelopes and plastic sleeves for each of them.

I have a flat rate box of 100 cards ready to go. Just need to actually get to the post office since it won't fit in my mail box. LOL

Just "wow". I know I've been saying how happy they're going to be receiving all your lovely, thoughtful cards a lot. I don't think I've said how happy it makes ME to think of that flood of cards. It brings tears to my eyes it makes me so happy. Thank you, thank you, thank you everyone.
