Challenge Title: Sweet Inspiration

This week I want you to be inspired by the paintings of Wayne Thiebaud (pronounced tee-bow). He is a painter and printmaker who in his early days worked for Disney Studio and as a cartoonist. He is known for paintings featuring cakes, ice cream cones, and pies. He uses heavy pigment and exaggerated colors to depict his subjects and also utilizes well-defined shadows. He likes atypical colors on his landscapes and geometric shapes.

At 97 he is still painting.



Challenge: Make a project inspired by the paintings of Wayne Thiebaud. Use whimsical images, geometric shapes, and /or pigmented colors. Have fun! Use the paintings shown in this thread or visit this Pinterest page to inspire you.

All those cakes, your inspiration is making me hungry. I'll be along this afternoon, I love those ice-cream cones and have a germ of an idea already. Got to figure the MIX part into it!

Gosh, his work is wonderful. It also made me hungry, so instead of healthy waffles I ate an apple danish in his honor.

I don't know if this will translate for you: La Compagnie des Ocres . I bought the pigments two years ago when we visited one of the old ochre quarries. I imagine all the earth tones came from the region but I'm not sure about all the beautiful bright colours. I couldn't decide which set to get, and since I had unspent Christmas gift money I got the full set :mrgreen:.

Thanks so much for this challenge! Wayne Thiebaud is from Northern California, where I live, and his work is extremely popular here (and I love it). A few years ago the local museum showed a retrospective of his work. I bet they sold a lot of desserts in the museum restaurant while it was there.

For this challenge, two of Wayne Thiebaud's art pieces inspired me, both with their triangular designs and cherry and olive top embellishments: Sandwich Wedges and Colorful Cake Wedges. My mediums are: Copic markers, Gold Heat Embossing, and ink edge-distressing.
