I may have just placed my last order with Altenew. Shipping charges. What gives??? My small order wasn't very heavy or bulky and came to over $70.00. Shipping was over $15.00! Now, I've ordered from them before and never had shipping amount to much over $5 or so.
As a comparison, I looked at other company shipping policies for a $70.00+ order. Simon Says Stamp would have been $6.99. Ellen Hutson would have been $7.00. MFT and Impression Obsession would have been free shipping.
Why didn't I just not order? My PayPal credit info had already been entered when I found out the shipping; so I was afraid to cancel the order at that point in the process.
I put an order for $76 into my cart. It gave me seven shipping options:
USPS First-Class Package Service - Retail at $5.22
USPS Retail Ground at $8.64
USPS Priority Mail at $8.67
FedEx Ground Home Delivery at $13.86
FedEx Express Saver at $14.36
UPS Ground at $15.14
UPS Three-Day Select at $29.99
Did you do checkout through paypal? Where you clicked paypal to start the checkout instead of the checkout button? I think that sometimes messes things up-- I usually try to avoid "check out with paypal" and go through the normal checkout process, and then pick paypal as the payment method as the final step. My guess is that you ended up defaulted into the FedEx or UPS ground option.
How odd that your list has those cheaper options; they weren't among mine. The $15.00+ was the cheapest one.
I will make it a point in the future to postpone the Paypal button and proceed as if it were a credit card purchase. I wonder why that could screw up the shipping charges though.
You might contact them. I ordered more expensive shipping from them once thinking that my summer address being a box number wouldn’t work with the PO and they sent it PO anyway but charged me the UPS rate. They refunded it. Not the same but they have pretty nice customer service. I think the postponing on PayPal is probably the answer though. That’s kind of a confusing system. They might want to know it’s not working well.
The order got shipped minutes after I had sent a message to Altenew. Too late.
Their reply referred to possible weight of the items, etc.
I started a duplicate order but did not go directly to Paypal. Lo and behold, the shipping price of $6.99 popped up along with pricier methods. Lesson learned: from now on I do not click on Paypal the first time I spy it. Go through the slower process of getting the shipping cost first.

Contact them and point that out. They might refund the difference.
BTW I have totally backed out of sales after I already hit PP and saw something I didn't like before confirming the sale. To me it is the whole idea of PP...the merchant isn't seeing much about us. Some sites I wont see the shipping till after I did the PP thing (you might be able to get an estimate before).
I dont care for fixed fees. Why I dont do small orders with some companies. I wont pay 6.99 shipping to buy 1 stamp set

Just a general comment, not specifically about your situation - often items have not been shipped even though a shipping notice has been sent or if the account indicates it�s shipped.More and more shops send shipped notices well before shipping - if the label was created, or even before that, like when the order is in process to have a label created.
I only ordered once from Altenew directly because the shipping option was $11.99. It was a kit that was on great discount, so it was worth it. I don't even think of ordering from them directly because of high shipping. I may try them again (during a sale!). I have bought their stamps from other vendors with lower shipping.
