I have quite a few unmounted rubber stamps, and have also unmounted many of my wood mounted stamps. I know that the Misti works wonderfully with clear stamps but wonder if any of you have used rubber unmounted stamps with it? Any tips on how to align and position them, since you can't see through the stamp and see exactly where it it on the paper? Thanks!
I usually use the grid on the MISTI cover to get my stamp where I "generally" want it. Then put a piece of scratch paper down to test it. Lydia shared a great tip using a plastic quilting guide that I think you may find helpful. HERE'S THE LINK
Wow, thanks for the link to Lydia's tutorial. I'm wondering if I can use a piece of stencil plastic as well, since I won't actually need a grid to stamp. I'll just need something clear that I can tape to the Misti as a flap that will move out of the way..so excited!
Your stencil plastic should work for any of the stamping platforms (Misti, Tim Holtz, SU, etc.). A grid helps me get sentiments straight, for stamps that "want" to be straight, and for aligning letters for alpha stamps - the space between each letter. But not everyone needs a grid.
The grid I mostly use happens to be from Simon Says Stamp, and while I hinged it to make a flap for a while, found I preferred to use it unhinged, loose. Just preference, not right or wrong. Either way, it's a game changer. Enjoy!

I usually use old stamp packaging or quilting template cut down to card sizes.
Place over the piece of card you are using, stamp and see if it looks straight; if not, clean up and stamp again until it is. Then remove plastic and stamp onto card.
I often just place the piece from my Stamp-a-ma-jig where I need to test my stamp.
When I first got my MISTI, I downloaded that grid and printed it onto a transparency sheet meant for inkjet printers (which I was using). For some reason, though, one time when I had to clean some ink off of the grid sheet, it took several of the printed lines with it! So if you're going to use the download and print your own, a laser printer might be the better option. I switched to gridded quilting sheets that I cut to A2 size. I just use a Sharpie marker to draw a line down the center each way on one. I have marked another one divided into thirds, so I can use the Rule of Thirds for stamp placement if I want to. If the marker comes off or fades (which it does sometimes), I just use a ruler and redraw the lines. Anyway, hope this helps!
If you download a grid using an ink jet printer, the ink will come off with most stamp cleaners. So you can mark the side without the printing “Top” or “Up” with a Sharpie so you don’t use cleaner on it. (Just don’t use a T since it looks the same from either side! But you could use a B for bottom. : )

Thanks for the tips. We have a laser printer so now all I have to do is dig out my transparency sheets and see if they work for laser as well as inkjet!
