Question uninked pigment foam pad spots?

Is there a vendor that sells firm foam ink spots? I like the convenience of the stampin' spots but I want a foam pad. I *think* they must be the same foam spots that the pigment ink (how I miss that Craft ink!) used.

I'd like to get some uninked ones and add my ink to them.

Why oh why doesn't SU make foam pad ink spots???

Although a different shape, I use un-inked Colorbox pigment cat's eye shaped ink pads - they are the Dew Drop shape. No where near as convenient as the square, but it still works! I always buy them from the Joann.com. I just went to include the link from jonann.com but at the moment, what's coming up is this...

ColorBox also makes square and rectangular mini pads. I'm not sure if they are foam. I saw some at scrapbooking warehouse and on Ebay.

Ranger has an 8x10 foam pad you can trim to any size you want. They also have a felt pad. http://rangerink.com/?product=cut-n-...-and-felt-pads

Thanks very much! I'm guessing the firm foam pads may be different from the foam used in SU's old craft pads, since it was supposed to be a new product, not just new to their classic pads. I am debating taking the Ranger foam pad and cutting it down to size, but perhaps I just need to be satisfied with the regular felt spot pads. (I don't want to get any more full-size pads.) I appreciate all of you for taking the time to respond!

Here is a great resource for uninked spots and pads:
http://www.franticstamper.com/Un-inked-pads_c_2240.html

Remember that the foam pads, like the cat's eye and the petal point from color box, and the ranger foam, are made for pigment inks.

And the felt pads with a linen surface are made for dye inks.

When SU came out with what they call the firm foam pads, they were a new type of material. Foam, but designed for dye inks. SU seems to be the only maker of this type of pad (let me know if I am wrong on this one!) and they don't offer firm foam in cubes, just the felt and linen in cubes.

I'll be doing some of the changes you're doing, Janis. I'm switching some of my colors...the less-used ones...to SU's cubes. I will keep my favorite colors in large pads, and then there's some colors that I will only have in the markers because they are rarely used.

I just want to echo what Diane said about the foam being for pigment and the other being for dye inks. I make my own "spots", and initially made them with the Cut ' Dry Foam from Ranger. After a year or so, they were all noticeably breaking down, so I had to re-make them all with the Cut 'n Dry Felt. They're holding up beautifully now...

Good reminder (dye/felt and pigment/foam). An exception to the rule unless I'm misunderstanding: Catherine Pooler's newish inks are dye ink but on foam pads. I don't know if she sells unlinked pads.

Wow...thanks, everyone! You've also substantiated my concern that the dye inks won't work on foam pads. I have emailed SU! to request that the stampin' spots have the firm foam pads instead of felt. Maybe if they hear it from several people they will consider it...

Thanks, too, to Diane for the link to the uninked pads on Frantic Stamper's site. I notice that the Clearsnap uninked pads are made for dye inks...and I believe it's SU!-cofounder Shelli Gardner's husband Sterling that owns Clearsnap--so many it's that same firm foam??? Hmm...

I just ordered foam unlinked stamp pads regular size from Create for Less through amazon prime. They were about 3.50 each.

The foam pads are for pigment ink. Don't work with dye ink.

I get both the foam and felt mini pads from this seller on Etsy... the foam pads are 5 for $8.00 or 10 for $17.99.

Would you mind sharing how raised the felt is above the cube? There is another thread about inked spots going and someone shared a link to a seller on eBay where you get 10 for maybe $2.80. So I bought 30 1x1 unlinked felt cubes. I just received them yesterday. I compared to the SU stampin spots, and they are raised maybe 1/2 the height of the SU ones. I'm going to test one out shortly and let you know if they work as the SU ones. However, they do fit nicely into the Ranger Tins!

I'm just curious - because a lot of Etsy sellers - sell the same products from China and just upcharge for the same product.

Has anyone found a small un-inked pad with a lid that stays on? Id like to find a cheap, easy to use pad for the new Stampin Up dye inks. The Stampin Spot lids just fall off, so they are not easy to store. A pad thats a little bit bigger and easier to use than the Stampin Spots would be nice.

Perhaps in addition to, but please not instead of! Many of us prefer the felt pads.

Are the un-inked SU spots in the catalog the EXACT same pad as the ones we receive in the PP kits or buy in already ink sets they sell?

The felt pads are 1/8" tall (just the felt part). They fit
nicely in the TH storage tins.

I bought some of the cheap ones on ebay. I also bought the Ranger felt. The felt is way thicker than the spot container, so I had to tear a layer apart on it, and then insert it into the spot container. Has worked fine for my needs.
