MAR18VSNJ - Inspiring Words ~ Sat, March 24 ~ 4 pm ET
Challenge Title: Inspiring Words
Hostess: Dawnmercedes
Keyword: MAR18VSNJ
Date: Sat. March 24, 2018 @ 4pm EST
My dad is a gardener and so I have always been blessed to be around gardens throughout my life. The size of his garden would grow and shrink and then grow again...from year to year. It was a delight to have a garden in the backyard as a child...except for when we had to weed and pick beans or process mounds of tomatoes. In our garden, there was always beans, peppers and tomatoes, strawberries, raspberries and grapes. Some years he would experiment with other produce types...like corn for popcorn or some funny squash. It was always a delight to find the first ripe tomato or strawberry...and to this day, Dad shares it with one of us. Now as an older gardener, my father plants lots and lots of flowers and and bushes. They are in every nook and cranny in his yard. They even flow out into the street as he has planted them along the curb. My father worked in a hot, loud, stifling, filthy steel mill for 40 years. As I grew older I thought about the difference between that steel mill and the cool, calm, peaceful dirt in his backyard garden. I realized that the quiet garden must have been a place for him to escape, think, and cool off after hard days (and nights) at work.
Gardens are a great place to escape. Sometimes we need a new place to relax and renew...a place to just "be."
My challenge to you is to be inspired by this quote about a garden:
"A garden to walk in and immensity to dream in--what more could he ask? A few flowers at his feet and above him the stars."
Victor Hugo (Les Miserables)
I look forward to seeing how you interpret this quote and how it will inspire your card designs!

My dad loved his yard much like your dad. Mine was military and I think the yard work allowed him to process his work day.

Loved reading your dad's story Dawn and it reminded me of my background and where the men had allotments or beautiful gardens after spending hours down in a coal mine. Love your quote and challenge....I shall put on my thinking cap....when I've finished my first cuppa of the day LOL...and go create. Happy day

Thanks for a fun challenge. I hadn't used this SU hostess stamp set yet so it was nice to ink it up.

Thank you for hosting, I had fun playing along. My card is showing me relaxing in the evening as the stars start to shine with the cherry blossoms falling at my feet.
