I have been reminded twice this past weekend my card making is more than a hobby. I made some Valentine cards, dipped some pretzels, fixed in some sacks I got on clearance years ago. Two of my friends got very emotional, and told me that's all they would get for Valentine's Day. I am so glad I took the time to do this, my friends are so important to me. Tomorrow I will get up early and start baking. Chocolate cherry cake for my husbands office.

Awesome! I think that we forget that the greatest gift is "the gift of self", and that's pretty much what we do when we make things with our hands/hearts...
Hello - A friend called last night to say thanks for the valentine I sent her - said it would be the only one she would get. I know sending cards has fallen out of fashion except with people like us, but I love to make and send them out. I know it does brighten people's days and it's makes me happy too.
I absolutely agree. I rescued two little guinea pigs who have been very very ill. One barely made it. I've been in and out of the vet multiple times every month getting this piggies back to good health. I bought these huge heart shaped lollipops and put a little picture of both Tizzle and Zelda on the lollipops that said "Thank you for saving our lives." I dropped off 12 of them to the vet's office and I also gave them cupcakes to share. For my vet and for the woman at the front desk who is just amazing - I gave them an assortment of my handmade cards as a gift. The vet was near tears, she said she's never received a valentine before that said thank you for saving my life. And she absolutely loved the cards and how I packaged them. It's the little things in life that matter. And being grateful for those around you an letting them know! It's all so worth it when you see someone's face light up and feel appreciated.
I live in a community of mostly seniors. I made 14 little gift boxes on my Cameo. I put some chocolates inside. Decorated them & gave them to special neighbors. I keep adding to my list of people when I see them doing something good for others! The recipients look forward to my little surprises at various times of the year. Paying it forward. This country needs kindness!❤️❤️❤️
I am so pleased to see many of us using our paper crafting to demonstrate the appreciation of our fellow humans. The personal joy of creating can't be used for anything better! Thanking someone for the gift of their friendship just warms my heart...and I will continue to use this medium to further this message.
I'v been making cards for our church shut ins. I try to make one per month for each of them. The visitor volunteers tell me how excited these lonely people are to receive a card! Our list of shut ins has grown to 29. Well, that just means I get more time in my craft room to play!!
My cousin, who is 90, was so excited about the valentine I made and sent her last year, she called me the day she got it, and she sent me a thank you note. I was just playing around, having fun, making cards, and she was overjoyed at her card. Well, how can I let her down now? I think she has saved all the cards I have sent her. It makes us both feel very good.
I know I already posted, but I have another story to share. A few years ago I made Valentine's Day card for my Aunts and Uncles. It was when we had those sweet treat cups - and I filled the heart ones with pink and red M&M's and made this cute card for them. They were just so touched! It's their kids who always get Valentine's Day cards, not the adults! It made me smile, how much joy such a little gift meant to them. My one aunt couldn't even remember the last time she had received a Valentine. It was really sweet to such a little gesture could make them feel thought of and appreciated. And of course the kids got in on the dibs too with the candy!
Definitely makes a difference - especially in this day and age when email is so prevalent. People notice when you take the time to send them a card through snail mail - even more so when you make it.
I send cards to the shut-ins from my church, some of which I know personally, some I don't. They are so appreciative that they are remembered - I have gotten thank you cards back, purse sized calendars at Christmas and holiday cards. I never expected any of that, but quickly realized that it just means so much to them that they are remembered and someone would take the time to make cards just for them.
It can be more than a hobby.
