Happy Tuesday! Anita here with a new Teapot Party.
Anyone is welcome to play - the more, the merrier! You automatically become a TEApotter the first time you play in our challenge. Where will you find inspiration? Will it be from the teapot? The destination location? Something of the recipient? Or could it be from the challenge itself? Remember, your participation in Destination Station is 100% voluntary and not a requirement. Just have fun!
CHALLENGE: I saw that February 16, is when the Chinese will celebrate the Chinese New Year. This year is the year of the dog. Your challenge is to use dogs (or any of the other animal from the Chinese Zodiac) on your card or make an Asian style card. I would love to see a colorful gallery!
Here's the list of the Chinese zodiac animals: rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog and pig. DESTINATION STATION: This week were heading north to chilly Canada to shower Alex with lots of positive, happy messages. SCSer JadeOnline (Heather) requested a tea party forAlex Pasichnyk, a 12-year-old little girl from St. Albert, Alberta, Canada. Alex was a normal, healthy, vibrant child until June 2017 when, for no known reason, she went into sudden bone marrow failure. She has been diagnosed with severe aplastic anemia and her body no longer produces red blood cells (carry oxygen), white blood cells (fight infection) or platelets (for clotting). She has spent the last six months receiving up to three transfusions a week since June to fight her illness and the next step in her treatment is a bone marrow transplant, chemotherapy and radiation.
Alexs mom is an emergency room nurse and together her family and friends have spent months holding bone marrow drives with the goal of increasing awareness of the need for donors, registering as many potential donors as possible and hopefully increase the chance that Alex and others like her will find a match.
Just after Christmas, they received word a match has been found for Alex (a 9/10 match!!). Alex will need to be in another city 3 hours away for 3 months to receive this lifesaving treatment. During this time, Alex, her parents (Lisa and Sheldon) and younger sister Kimber will be separated, as work and school prevents them all from being together for this journey. Alex will be isolated from most people during the process, as its critical that she avoid exposure to viruses and bacteria to decrease the chance of her body rejecting the new marrow. A successful graft could be a complete cure for Alex! <o:pCards would help lift Alex and her familys spirits during this process. <o:p SEND YOUR CARDS TO:<o:p RMHC Southern Alberta

Ooh! I love the theme!! I will definitely be doing this one and sending another card to Alex. Word from her friends and family is that the transplant is showing positive results. And, they continue to spread the word about the importance of this topic (the phones at the radiothon light up when they talk about Alex).

I read the article and I'm so glad there are positive results,I'll keep on praying for her and I hope many Teapotters will send her encouragements!!
Thank you to give us some news.
Anita,
I really liked the Asian theme! I made two cards. The first one of the dragon didn't seem right for the guest of honor so I made card two, but I posted them both for your gallery.

I can't wait to make a card for Alex...I got a little behind with Valentine's and a cookie order but I'm looking forward to pulling out some dog stamps. Great challenge Anita and thank you so much for the update on Alex Heather.
Wonderful destination for today's tea party cards! Thank you, Heather, for providing the name and the link to the article about Alex and her family. This really made an impact on my heart as our dear friends lost a 4-year old daughter many years ago to Aplastic Anemia ~ no bone marrow donor was found for her. I am so glad to here that Alex has had her transplant and I will be keeping her and her family in my prayers. Here's my doggie card for her:

I'm sorry for your friends loss, Claudia! Alex is very lucky to find her match and I hope all the efforts they've made to add individuals to the registry and raise awareness will help others just like her. They had actually heard that someone they swabbed at one of their events was contacted as a potential match for another donor somewhere.
Thanks Anita for the great inspirational ideas...here is my pup for our little girl....Spring day

Alex's mom posted a happy update today:
The Best Valentines Day present.....discharge! Alex was discharged to the Ronald MacDonald House today! Her blood counts are still low but can be managed in the clinic. Weve traded one room for another...a room with a real bed and uninterrupted sleep! We are told to be optimistically cautious. We will need to remain in Calgary for the next 72 days, close to our transplant doctors. They are taking such great care of us. ❤️Happy Valentines Day!
Those of you whose cards may come from a distance, don't worry! They'll be at that location for the next 72 days, at least.
Here is my card for this week's teapot challenge. It has lots of dogs on it. I'm not sure whether I will send this one to young Alex, of make a prettier one for her.Hot Dog! by yellowrose46 - at Splitcoaststampers

I had not read the update before I posted the link to my card. Now I think I may send this card after all. I am so glad Alex is discharged and will pray for a uneventful recovery and complete healing during those 72 days.
