Challenge Title: MIX263 (Touch of Wow) 2-9-18
Hostess: MariLynn
Keyword:MIX263
Maybe it is just me, but sometimes, I make a card and truly forget how amazing it is. When I give that card away and the recipient looks at it and says "WOW, I can't believe you made this." I am reminded of all the times I learned a new technique, or saw a new stamp and said wow. Do you remember the first time you saw heat embossing? Like WOW!! you stamp and put a powder on it and heat it up and get such an amazing result. My challenge for you is to recapture that touch of wow with your mixed media card or project this week.
For me there have been many wow moments, but my favorite one, and one I used on my card this week is hand drawn raindrops or teardrops.
They are so super easy to make and I bet you have the products at home to make it.
1. I draw horse shoe shapes on patterned paper with a black pen. I specifically used a fine point Sharpie marker.
2. I use a pencil to close the top of the horse shoe shapes. I use a pencil because you don't want the top of the drops to be as pronounced as the bottoms.
3. I use a fabric pin and white acrylic paint to put dots in the upper left hand side of the horse shoe shapes. I then put a "swoosh" in the lower right hand side. You could probably do this with a white gel pen. I just don't have one that is working right now so I used white paint.
4. That's it.
It only takes a couple of mins to do. I think from start to finish on my card took less than 5 mins. I will share photos in the thumbnails.
What will you use for your touch of WOW? Let us know which technique you used when sharing your card or project. Remember for it to be a mixed media project it needs 2 or more different art mediums. I used ink, pen, pencil, paint and twine (textile) for a total of 5 different media on my card.
Use the keyword MIX263 when uploading your card so we can find it in the gallery.
Thanks for the early post, MariLynn. Plenty of wow factors we can use. Hopefully I'll have a little energy after work, right now I'm dragging. Your raindrops look pretty amazing.
DOX inks, watercolour pencils and I think some acrylic sprays on the little flower...half an hour on the phone to the tax office kind of sapped what little creativity I had. Maybe tomorrow will be better.
Loved seeing all the cards in this challenge. Your raindrops are amazing. I may come back to this challenge as I have about another 5 I need to get onto LOL.
Heat embossing was a wow factor for me but there's so many I love when using mixed media.....watching Lindys magicals change colour with a drop of water; watching texture paste and gesso bubble when the heat gun is used on them; TH inks and oxides changing when water is splashed; White and black pencils rubbed on BGs....gosh I love it all and wish I had come across this medium many years ago. I'm a late starter when it comes to craft and art.
Thank you for the challenge and thank you to all the ladies who have posted cards on this challenge and given me lots of Wow moments today.
Happy day everyone

I made another one too - this background has been growing all week and reproaching me with the fact that I wasn't doing anything towards turning it into a card: MIX263 Gilded Fun
I remember my first watercolor background, paint flecking, and coloring with Copics...all so exciting the first time around! They still do not disappoint! This card hosts them all: Congrats! What Happy News!
