Welcome to the first Stash Buster Challenge of 2018! I look forward to being your hostess for this challenge. I will try to post the first Tuesday of every month. And please feel free to do more than just one layout!
First of all I did a little research.
I found out that a synonym of stash is hoard! Yep, that is me with my craft items! To hoard is to have an accumulation that is hidden or carefully guarded for future use! Now is the future, lets use that supply of craft items you have been hoarding! Are you afraid there is going to be a shortage? Fat chance! LOL In fact they just keep coming out with more stuff, and better stuff! And now your accumulated stuff is out of date! Like for example my 100s of eyelets and brads! One definition of stash used in a sentence was "the man grudgingly handed over the stash of notes." Is that us or what! I know I am guilty of hanging on to paper and not wanting to use it! Well, no longer!
I figure there are about four categories of craft things that we hoard in our stash:
Paper: specialty, designer, card stock, vellum, fabric, burlap, glitter paper, so many others! And I have it all!
Tools: Die cut machines, or cricuts, etc, all those dies and embossing folders, punches, paper piercers, embossing gun and embossing powders, spritzers, scor pal, would we put paints here, geli plates, and pencils of all kinds, as well as markers of many kinds , decorative scissors, smootch, guessos, color powders, Pearl-x, Radiant pearls
Techniques (that use those tools and why are we hoarding all these techniques that we have learned?) : Geli printing, dry embossing, alcohol ink, paper piercing, Layering, Heat embossing, fussy cutting, look at all the techniques in the SCS tutorials! We do them once and forget them, when we could be using them on our layouts!
So, this year, I will be challenging you (and me) to use some of all of the above. When I give a challenge, and you don't have the item, DO NOT GO OUT AND BUY IT! Just substitute the nearest thing you can. Because this challenge is to help you use your stash not make more!
You know what happens when you don't use stuff? It gets old! I had some stickers I used on the last scrap page I did that had lost their stickiness, so had to use glue! LOL
I say if we don't use this stuff, throw it out or give it away! Our lives will be simpler!
So after this long intro that I won't do every time; I promise! I will post this month's challenge: 1. Use at least one piece of printed paper and at least two colors of cardstock or solid paper. 2. Use stickers 3. Use a technique 4. Use a tool of your choice Now the challenges will vary and sometimes I will give you more choices, but this time it is more structured, but we will follow trying to use from all 4 categories. The idea is to use more from what we have. I get stuck on only using the big shot, but am going to challenge myself and you to use other items in our craft room. Hope you made it through this long post and aren't too tired to go do a layout for this challenge! I look forward to seeing what you come up with!
When you upload your project be sure and use our keyword STASH18JAN, and tell us how you met the challenge in your description.
Sharon, this challenge is definitely what I need as I really don't need to buy again...LOL. When I read your post I was thinking of all the things I've bought and never used and hang onto. I also find stickers and bling that have lost their stickiness. Thank goodness for glue...that's about the only item I use and buy regularly..LOL.
Thank you for this challenge. I will start preparing ideas in my journal and commit...another word for me this year LOL...to start after my MIL has left.
I'm having a minor op on my left arm end of next week and will need a creative outlet as I won't be able to do much else for a couple of weeks....surely I can scrap with one arm...LOL. I'll give it a go but know I will be ok as it's the upper arm....haha. Also heard from my Dr today that I've torn my meniscus in my knee and have to have another minor op for that too...gosh 2018 seems to be the year for minor ops for me. Could be worse and at least I'm going to be fixed. Beware of Pilates I say...I overstretched...LOL.
Thanks again. Happy day

Oh, my goodness, two upcoming surgeries, Jane? I know, everytime I go to the gym, I hurt something and then I can't go for a while, and continue to get out of shape! A vicious circle. Please keep us informed when and how you are doing. I do hope you find time to scrap with us this month.
Sharon, have you thought about investing in a Gazelle? Walking and arm workout without the impact. I found one at a thrift store for $8.88. We're putting the treadmill up for sale as soon as weather breaks and we can get it from storage. I'm hoping being in the cold storage hasn't hurt the electronics

So happy you picked this challenge up again, Sharon. I'm pretty good at using stash, but I have so much of it to get through that it helps to have some specifics to focus on!

Hi Sharon, Yes going to the gym and having an injury and out of action for a while is definitely a vicious circle. I'm trying to do a few small exercises at home as best I can.
I will definitely be scrapping this month otherwise I will go stir crazy. I can't go to golf, the gym or walk far. I took my MIL shopping for hours yesterday and by the time we had finished my hubby had to help me into the car LOL. My back goes into spasms and I can't walk or sit properly and until my heat pack has kicked in...or physio treatment, which I had this morning ;) My physio tells me I am walking differently to compensate for my sore knee. With rest, my back will improve and once I have the knee op. I will have lots of time to scrap, read, plan our next trip and hopefully do all the things that were on my 2017 To Do List and now have found their way onto this year's list..LOL.
My OLW which has turned into TLWs...LOL is now "Commit, Connect and Conquer"....things I need to improve upon both with craft and other things in my life that I keep putting off.
The minor op on my arm is next week and I am waiting to get an appointment to see the specialist about my knee soon. The specialist is still on leave so I just have to be patient until his rooms are open again, and then get in for another minor op asap. Hopefully by end February I will have had the knee op but maybe not. Patience and staying still isn't what I do best so I will need to learn.
I'll be online when I can. I'm currently printing all the challenges off and have my journal ready to start planning.
My MIL is taking a nap and all the kids (except one whose birthday it is today and is somewhere in Ecuador...he was alive a couple of days ago...;)) will descend upon us later for dinner. It's currently the calm before the storm here, albeit a wonderful storm about to descend upon us....LOL.
Happy day.

Cheryl, thanks for playing! Great layout!
Kelly, I had never heard of a gazelle other than an animal or place that buys used unwanted iPhones and iPads. Sounds like you got a food deal!
Jan , play when you can! So glad you are joining us!
Jane, that is quick, next week! Will you have your arm in a cast or brace. Just wondering how you can scrap with one arm! Enjoy your family!

Sharon, the Gazelle has been around for years. It is marketed by Tony Little. I had a 'cloudwalker' several years ago, which was similar - but just the leg work. I still kick myself for getting rid of it. But I'm liking the gazelle.
I've seen the gazelle at other flea markets/ thrift stores for over $100. This thrift store just likes to move stuff quick. I wish they weren't in Springfield. I'd go there more often

Hi! I've been contemplating doing paper scrapping again because I had to uninstall my photoshop elements program...just wouldn't work right. So I figure it forces me to do regular scrapping. But probably not until after taxes are done at work and at home but i'll be following along for inspiration when I get the chance.
Jane, I feel your pain! I tore my meniscus as well several years ago and it wasn't until my knee actually locked up that I found out what it was. The surgery itself only takes minutes...the preparation to do it and the time to come out of anesthesia took longer and I all but walked out of the center...good luck with everything!

Lol..re the gazelle. I thought it was an animal too.
This op has been booked in for a couple of months......just stitches on my arm...having something cut out. I've been advised not to carry my handbag on the arm for a few days..lol. I'll give scrapping a go.
Family dinner went well. Youngest boy facetimed us...he's back in Columbia...phew..he's alive! MIL left a couple of hours ago. I'm stuffed LOL and about to go for a nap. Not sure whether it was all the talking we have done this week or the constant throbbing in my knee.
The good news is my back is good...physio's are amazing
Happy weekend
Ps....I've just been watching the CP SOA box due to come out. How am I ever going to stash bust when these sort of videos keep drawing me in...LOL. I think I may ask the surgeon to stitch my fingers too so I can't do online shopping whilst I'm housebound...;)

Thank you. I believe it's a simple op. I did this about 7 weeks ago and walking lots in the UK didn't help. It's now starting to get worse and throbbing. I can't even get comfortable when in bed but it's minor and fixable. The hardest part is not being able to kneel in my craft room. It's quite amusing to watch me attempting to get down on the floor to get to my stash and when I had a sore back getting back up...lol. Maybe I should get hubby to photo that..haha.
Happy day

Hey there everyone! I am not crafting but am decluttering whole house! Have been on a rampage doing this since Christmas! I have a one track mind, so difficult to think about crafting, too! But finally have Christmas decorations all taken down, packed, taped, labeled and stored! Why is it harder to take down than to put up? LOL
Jane what picture I have of you getting down to your stash! My DH put my plastic containers of 8 1/2x11 cs up on a desk in the family room so I didn’t have to stoop or lift when I had my cataract surgeries . I liked that! Of course for Christmas we had to put all back.
Jane, what is CP SOA?
Terry, terry, Terry, so great to see you! My ole scrappin’ buddy!
Hope you will join us! Missed you!
Kelly, I finished my planner. (Inspired by you!) I used bits and pieces! Didn’t really decorate it, though, as the monthly calendar tabs are from Bo Bunny that I bought for 2.53 on clearance years ago! They are really cute! So filled in the dates and then put in the weeklies from recollections that I bought several years ago and didn’t used. Filled in dates, and had to make some copies. I even had to punch the holes to go from 5. Hole to three hole like the Bo Bunny. It was a major job! Anyway it is done, and I am using it! LOL
Maybe I will scrap this evening while watching college basketball! Our favorite time of the year. We are big in college basketball and then March Madness!

Hi Sharon, great tip about having my stash on the desk. I just need to clear a space for it first LOL. I mainly have all my patterned papers in the bottom of my bookcase and also some stamps/dies.
CP SOA is Catherine Pooler Stamp of Approval that comes out quarterly. Trust me if you haven't checked it out, don't. It's wonderful and I so wish I had come across this when I first started making cards 18 months ago or maybe longer. Instead I have purchased most of her boxes (some unopened). I didn't get the Holiday one last quarter as nearly everything in it I had in other stamps/dies and what I didn't have too bad. It's amazing value but when international shipping is added it gets pretty expensive....still slightly cheaper than buying separate items in Oz but still. I am loving the new box as it's travel related, and don't know how I will stop myself from ordering later this week. You have to go on the waitlist to get in early as they sell out pretty fast. If you miss out on the box, you can eventually purchase the items separately but I love having them all together in the box. Trust me, if you have given yourself a goal of not to buy, don't go to her website or blog
I also have SU and CTMH and any other brand of stamps/dies. I'm overwhelmed by them all and why I am loving your stash buster section. Someone told me I should have purchased as I needed things. Easier said than done. I now just let the poppets use whatever they want as at least they are being used.
Well done on getting your planner ready. Enjoy the game and Happy Sunday
PS: CP has inks too...they are yummy. She used to be a SU demonstrator and I think follows their style. Oh dear, I fear you will wish you hadn't asked

I didn't finish mine yesterday. The copier locked up about 1/2 way through the back side of the first 25. Grr. So that's on hold til the new one gets here on Wed.
When I have EVERYTHING put together I'll do a new video or two.

Here's my first LO for 2018...whoop, whoop :p. Meet Austrella and her mate ;). She may appear more this year, who knows.
After the past week of chats and OLW's, pockets, flips/folds, etc I decided it apt to do a front page of "words" for my Year/s in Review Album. I'm in the basket tossing out the words as I can't quite make my mind up, as you have found out.
I've decided that my album is going to be FUN and quirky and I will try and use some techniques I want to try or redo as I go along....something like my art journal I started last year and never kept going. : It also allows me to use up my stash, including stickers and stuff I have had from Smashbooks and which have never seen the light of day ;)
Thank you Sharon for this challenge. Everything I used is out of my stash. I'm feeling pretty pleased with myself that I haven't spent a $ yet this year (yes, I know it's only 8th Jan, but still....LOL).
I used:
Patterned paper; 2 different coloured cardstock (one is corrugated and hope that counts); Stickers...quite a few of those; I fussy cut and embossed and die cut; I used my heat gun.
My goal is to use as many items in my craft room as I can this year.
TFL. Can't wait to start the next pages which will be from Melissa's Pocket Pages...Bring on 2018
Happy day everyone

Eeeekkk... I almost missed linking my pages back here. Great Challenge Sharon! Since I need to use more stash, I'm going to try to do another, just have to figure out a technique
I did another one, too! Thanks for the inspiration. I have a hard time figuring out what is a technique and then looked at the tutorial list and there are so many things we just "do" that count anyway!
Sharon, I didn't do a page yet but I managed to make a very quick card for the S2S challenge last night after dinner. Hubby was watching the cricket so what else can a girl do...LOL. I am using up my stash and not spending LOL. Happy day

Hey gang! First off, I apologize if you see this same post across multiple threads. I'm on a time budget but wanted to let y'all know I haven't fallen off the wagon again.
Just a quick note. I've had some health issues the past week or so while getting the office finished. I have company all this week and Bob is coming home after being gone the past 5 weeks. I won't be around for the next 10 days or so but then I hope to get caught up!
