Welcome to Falliday Fest 2017!!
How many of you have heard about or experienced Wisconsin winters? They can be brutal!! Forecasters are predicting that due to our mild temperatures this summer we will get hit hard with snow and cold temperatures this winter!! As a resident of Wisconsin, I am already thinking about what I will need to survive the cold and snow this winter!! Of course, that would be card making supplies!
The cold and strong winds, that are forecast, gave me the idea for my challenge! Using the yarn block technique, create a stormy background on dark card stock. On that background add a winter creature or person braving the elements.
Challenge translation: Use the yarn block technique with ONLY white paintor white ink on a dark piece of card stock, for your background. This technique is done by wrapping yarn (any type) around a block, maybe your glass stamping block, or a wooden block. Wrap the yarn in different directions and secure on the back with tape for ease of stamping. Apply the paint or ink to your yarn and begin to stamp!!
Eyelash yarn works beautifully, as seen in some of my examples. Also, if you only have thicker yarn you could consider cutting and fraying some of the strands. If you do not have any yarn in the house, try using twine or string! Twine does work wonderfully!! Cant wait to see your snow storms and winter creatures!

Many thanks to all my sample makers, you are so very thoughtful!!
I have never heard of this technique before and it looks SO fun! At first, I thought we were to stamp our image on the wrapped yarn and I thought, "Hmmm.....that would be hard to get a clean image but I will give it a go" then I saw the samples and had to laugh at myself. Then I got excited to try this, because it looks amazing! This will be the fastest shower and grocery shopping trip of my life!
Ann this technique was so super fun. Everyone is going to really love this challenge. So many possibilities on what they can do with the technique once done.
Good morning, Ann, my friend!I really loved this technique and ended up making a bunch more panels to have on hand for more snow scene cards. Since I couldn't find the yarn I was looking for I settled on the Tim Holtz tinsel trim and it worked out just fine.

What a wonderful challenge, thank you Ann! I used rough twine and white craft ink on a royal blue panel for my snow- my card was inspired by the snowmen my kids made when they were little Here's FF17annsforte3 Snow Buddies

I don't know what I am doing with mine yet. My white paint was too thick and my yarn was thick, too! Not happy with it, but will think of something. Threw out everything, yarn, paint, block! yuk! Thinking .. I did both sides, and have to decide which side of paper to use. Be back. Going to take tylonal. I stumbled down stairs last night, and my toes feel broken. I caught myself but rolled forward on left foot. And same leg that has been hurting for months!
Great challenge! I had so much fun with this and realized I dont use black enough as a background. This was such a fun technique. I used it twice, but only linked one to this challenge because it made a great back drop for the bird challenge from today as well, so I used it over there also. I will link them both here.
Here is my card....Like others I am going to try this again with different twine and thinner paint....wondering if the illuminate ink would create a fun blizzard as well.Singing for our supper by c-mouse at Splitcoaststampers

I have no idea why my link isn't nice and neat. I am doing it the way I have been for the past umpteen years when participating in SCS challenges. I apologize.
What a super fun technique Ann!! Love it! And yes I have experienced a WI winter...I went to college in Appleton WI so I had 4 years there plus a lifetime in MN which has about the same winter..lol...here's my snowy card...
Thanks for this challenge! Last night I was just starting this when Tiny Tot called. Wanting to know what I was doing, I showed her. She calls us often from her iPad using Facetime. So my daughter held our phone so Leia could watch me do the stamping! Loved it!

Ann this was so much fun....I made another card. This one uses eyelash yarn/trim and I got a totally different look from the first one I did with string.
