Curious as to what everyone uses for sorting photos on your computer.
What Program do you like the best and why?
I have a windows computer it comes with a few photo editing programs which I have rarely used, just never took time to learn them same with program that came with my Canon camera, loaded Picasa a long time ago but hardly used it- believe google has switched to something else but a person can probably still use Picasa.
The one I used the most is FastStone Image Viewer, I did take time to learn it a little as I needed to do a video (which the timing of music and photos ended up not syncing properly anyways) BUT I still like the program mainly use it for organizing by renaming them by date instead of IMG-###

I use Google Picasa and have done for quite a few years & find it very user-friendly. I also use GIMP to add my watermark(s) but also to add more fine-tuned editing if I am not completely happy with the end result in Picasa. GIMP took me a while to learn how to use but I really like it & find it excellent.
I still use Picasa too - it's no longer supported, but it still works fine, and connects to Google Images online, etc. It's just so easy to use, with so many features and preset filters. I use it for sorting photos as well as quick crops and light adjustments before adding watermarks in Corel PaintShop Pro.
I am glad you asked this. I also have a windows (older) platform that came with...something that triggers when I plug in the camera......Then a geek who was supposed to be fixing something years ago (but didnt), installed Picasa saying it was far superior and it has come forward through the computer generations. Now my pics are split between the two.
It's on my to do list to consolidate and make a program decision so I am glad you all are talking about it.
For my "regular" photos, I've started using Adobe Lightroom. I have the monthly Photoshop subscription, which Lightroom comes with. Granted, neither program is for the feint of heart! I'm still learning the ins and outs of organizing with Lightroom. For my card/scrapbook layout photos, I just use Adobe Bridge, that comes bundled with Photoshop. When I import the photos I take of my cards & layouts, I don't need to keep the digital "negatives," since I crop & process the best shots immediately in Photoshop. Bridge does fine for viewing/organizing photos, and is not nearly as intimidating as Lightroom! One feature I like about both is my ability to tag/keyword photos, so I can search for specific ones more easily. Of course, that is more for my general photos than cards/layouts. I organize the heck out of all my craft-related photos, so I don't really have to add keywords anyway!
I have a Mac and I just use Photos to do my collections and editing. It is not fancy but seems to work well enough and is user friendly. I have been told that I have a google based cloud storage but I have not used it or even checked it out. Must do that!
I tend to shoot RAW so, I import with lightroom and edit in there. when I export them I put them into files where I want them rather than the default way the computer would organize them in "pictures" because, some of my photos are edited to be printed and some are edited to share online.
I watermark them in Photoshop elements because, I don't bother to buy the full bore ps anymore when all I do with it is drop and drag watermarks to the photos there.
( I have not found a way to stick say a mfg watermark onto a photo while it is inside of lightroom, I can however have a plain text type watermark from lightroom on export.) so, I have both programs. and the organizing is done to suit the way I think and I am pretty good about moving the files to an external hard drive later.

Ooooh! I didn't realize that Corel is still available! I own PSE, so never needed or tried it myself. Question: Is the free version of Corel a good possibility for non-techy card making friends who are interested in simple watermarking? I'd love to share an "even I can do this" precess with team & friends who would like to share more online.
