Art Journal Experience

Hi all. Do you have an art journal? I did my first journal page yesterday and wanted to share my experience. I immensely enjoyed it! As it was my first time I did it without any pressure or expectations. Obviously I wasn't hoping a masterpiece or anything grand and as I had expected, I disliked a few things but surprisingly I also loved some other parts of it in the same project. I found this as a very different experience from card making. Usually for me making cards is all or none law - either I find it acceptable or it goes in trash. Don't get me wrong - I love making cards but doing art journal was more like a learning process, something which I don't need to share and so I can make mistakes, try new things and be prepared to not even like it in the end but still have fun in the process. It was a very different and good experience for me and I hope to try it again.
What are your experiences? Have you tried it and do you like it?

I love that my art journal is a place I can be free from the expectation of finishing something or even ever showing it to anyone. I find it quite liberating.

I just watched Sandy Allnock this morning describing her watercoloring sketch books. It really is freeing to know these books are for the user alone to learn, to try new things, etc. I can see the value in these since they aren't for anyone else and there's no pressure to turn out a great final product!

Lydia, your beautiful watercolor of the storm clouds over Temple moved me to tears. I was born in Temple (I'm half Czech) and your scene is a perfect replica of my grandparents' farm. They passed away several years ago and it was sold but it remains a special place in my heart and memory. This is proof of the amazing power of art. Thank you so much for sharing yours.

Well Jak se mas? I have a Master's in Slavic Linguistics - specializing in Russian and Czech (too rusty now) but Czech comes in handy in Texas!
