Default TLC635 ~ Let's Get Clingy {04/24/2017}

Happy Monday, everybody! I guess this is an old technique that's come round again, because I remember an arty friend showing it to me way, way back when I first started stamping and she sent me some handmade backgrounds and told me how she'd made them all. It's certainly never featured, that I could find, as a TLC.

Robin used it for one of the DTGD challenges last year which is when I rediscovered it, and then Lydia created a fabulous Cling Wrap Background tutorial for our Resources section just a couple of weeks ago.
  • Lydia's tutorial shows applying your water-soluble medium directly to the cling-wrap laid on your work surface, and spritzing it with water, then laying the watercolour paper (or a medium which can take some wetting) over it. She shows quite a variety of mediums, so you should have something which will work, I hope.
  • Robin's version used spray starch as the wet medium - in which case you can start with your card on your work surface, spray it with starch, add your mediums (paints, Brusho or similar powders, re-inkers, sprays), mist again with starch and then lay your cling wrap on top and proceed as per Lydia's tutorial. Fan Club members can review Robin's challenge and see some great samples she showed using black cardstock and metallics right HERE. Robin also suggested glossy card - I've used both glossy and regular and while glossy gives a beautiful effect, regular is OK. For my black sample, I've never even seen glossy black, so I just used my regular heavy base-weight black card.
Whichever way you go - it's important to let it mostly dry naturally at this stage before removing the cling wrap - so I'll see you later ;-).

Here's a link to our TLC635 Let's Get Clingy gallery

Here are my two samples - taking the die-cut option with Brusho powders on glossy card, and using Perfect Pearls on matt black card.

 Remember to use the keyword TLC635 when you are uploading. It's helpful (to the hostesses for sure!) if you come back and leave a link on this thread .

If you're not sure how to link your card on the thread here, here's how:

1. Open 2 windows or tabs: one window for your card and one for this thread.
2. In this thread, click on reply and type anything you want to show before the link.
3. Go to your card window. Highlight the address for your card. (It says www. splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/showphoto..... and so on)
4. Click EDIT. Click COPY
5. Go back to this thread. Click PASTE.

I used Lydia's version since I don't have any spray starch. I used the created paper for the image on my card. Thanks for another inspiring challenge, Sabrina.

I put on my apron and DH said, what are you doing? I said, you've heard of Dress for Success? I'm Dressing for a Mess!

Very fun technique! I'm going to make some more. Thanks so much for the challenge.

Smile TLC635 year after year

Lydia's card for the cling wrap technique inspired me to make this meadow card- using purple and moss green for my cling wrap technique colors. Added a woodsy frame for my sentiment, and a moss green patterned border. Here's year after year

It does take time, Claudia! So many variables too, humidity, how much water/starch you used, the type of paper. But I think I can safely promise that it's worth the wait.

Fun challenge. It's been a long time since I've done this technique. It was fun to get inky fingers. Here's my card.

One more submission for the day. I was browsing cling wrap ideas on Pinterest and decided to try a more difficult idea. I also now have blue gel nails because I forgot to wear latex gloves...

Finally got this completed! This technique made a cool background, but I think I didn't let it dry long enough (almost 5 hours!) because I didn't get the cool lines from the scrunched cling wrap ~ I liked the outcome, anyway!

I played, but haven't had time to upload what I made yet. Maybe after work today--if I don't decide to play with it some more. :oD

I wanted to say that I have some glossy black--but they were glossy report folders. I had some extra left over one time and I said to myself, "Hey, look! Glossy black cardstock!" So I kept it. Used the last bit of it on this one little ATC. Now I'm going to have to find some more folders.

This was fun! I ended up making two cards, one more somber and one bright and sunshine-y! I still have some pieces that I made so I may be back with another card too!
