I am finding that on nearly all my full size Archival pads the ink has leaked down into the space between the felt platform and the case. It doesn't affect using the pad. It's just very messy looking. And I don't know why it happens. The pads are a couple of years old, but have not had to be reinked yet, so it's not a matter of my over-inking them. I just don't use my colored pads all that often.
Has this happened to anyone else?

Hi Rachelrose, I've actually had a couple of brand new pads that were delivered, sealed, with that sort of leakage, which I thought odd, but put down to over inking at source.
Now that you say it, Shaz, I remembered having it happen with a new pad years ago, and contacting Ranger and them saying it was an overinking thing.
I'm guessing the ink has just been leaking out of the other pads over time. Guess I'll call Ranger and ask. Kind of odd, if it's just the way they are. Or aren't supposed to be, which is why I posted to ask. So far, it seems my experience is unusual.

I just found this in a search for leaking archival inkpad. LOL
Good to know (and hope) it's from overinking as I just bought 9 pads on clearance at Hobby Lobby. At least 2 were leaking to the outside (one a lot) that I didn't notice when I picked them up. I've opened 5 to look at them and all have dry ink stains inside the 'moat' area around the pad.
I was concerned that perhaps I wasted the money. Especially when I really didn't need them. It was just hard to walk away from the bargain. (I had to ignore the rest. LOL There were also some other inkpads, too.)
Actually, I have since realized that leakage into the "moat" is normal. I starting keeping an eagle eye out when I watched anyone using Archival on YouTube, and I noticed that most of the pads were exactly like mine. Here's one by Leandra Franich from Paper Artsy. It's long, and the beginning is about putting down a paint BG, but once she starts stamping on it you can see that all of her pads have moat leakage. Fast forward to around 18:30 and you'll see her using the ink and see how her pads look:
