White or Vanilla, occasionally another neutral but not too often. I use coloured cardstock for layers mostly, or punching out embellishments like butterflies or flowers.
I usually stamp images on white cardstock, and color them. I make card fronts and attach them to white card bases, and only use colored paper for layers and embellishments.

Almost 100% white but I might make a sponged background on it before I add anything to it. Almost always use some kind of colored or designer paper to trim the final product.

I have made hundreds of cards and so many people say it has brought joy to their lives which, in turn, brings joy to my life. Almost everyone I give them to says that they always save me, which I consider a huge compliment.
Most of the time white and ivory but I have done black and other colors for sure.
Suppose I want a blue and silver card. Instead of using 2 inks on white, I might use silver ink on blue paper. You just have to remember if the color is dark, use a liner inside you can write on.
Great way to use up paper if you are overloaded! You can do solid stamps and emboss them if you want to get a little fancy.
On the Easter cards I've been making I used pastel colors to stamp on. Colored then with pencils plus markers. Used patterned paper for layering plus black.
Like using white or a light gray marbled paper I found but then I don't always know how to make/finish the background. It seems to look like something's missing. ;)

Usually white, but on occasion I stamp on colored card stock. I did a wedding set recently & stamped on aqua; Mostly the only white piece was as piece of water color paper & I just painted an aqua strip across it.

Three of the sunflowers were colored on white card stock, cut out & popped up on dimensionals.
But when you stamp on colored card stock, you want to put down a light layer of white so the color shows up better. I used a white colored pencil. I also added white accents with a white signo pen.
I used the girls invitation to design my cards on this occasion. I was tickled to find out from our son that the colors & EVERYTHING were right on with what she did! ;)
It's white, cream, kraft & black for me in that order of preference. Maybe stamp on colored paper occasionally. I usually use pre-made cards/envelopes and purchase them in packets. I used colored papers as layers.
