Default unexpected Gelli result

So yesterday I was trying to create a black and white marble effect with my plate. I added various layers, gold and silver veins, black mica powder sprinkles, pearl, black & white paint etc... You get the idea.

DH comes into the room and asks: "what are you doing?"
Me: " trying to get this to look like marble", I then hold it up and ask "what do you think, does it?"
DH: "umm no... I see a baby with sunglasses"
Me: "WHAT?" as I turn around to look at his again like he has two heads
DH: "I'm serious" he answers, then he walks over and points to the right side of the paper
Me: "whoa that is just plain weird" accompanied by hysterical laughter as I realize he is right

It's true no two pulls are ever alike and you never know what those results will reveal!

BWAHAHHA!!! That's hilarious. I've gotten face-like things too - but I'm WAY impressed with a baby with sunglasses!

LOL! At least he didn't hide behind the newspaper saying "uh huh, sure it does" without even looking! LOL

Stacy, did you happen to see the latest Gelli Arts short video? It's about faux marbling by using picked-apart twine. Printing with Gelli Arts

Thanks Beth! That video was fun and I'm going to pull out my gelli plate this week and play.

I linked this elsewhere, but since you are looking to replicate marble here it is again:

Faux Marble Technique using fiber by Birgit Koopsen

The results are really beautiful.

#1. Very cool that your DH truly "looked" and offered a 'real' response!
#2. Gotta love it when accidental art brings unexpected joys & giggles!

You have no idea how much those laughs were needed, the joys of home ownership, ugh

I knew pics would be requested but my camera went on spring break..

The video ya'll linked is the one that gave me the idea to try it myself, although I did it a little differently. I liked the results they got, they were stunning but I didn't think they looked like marble. My way wasn't much better, yet but I'm going to try again.

As far as DH actually looking: 1) he came into my room this time not me approaching him 2) after 25 years he knows better that to ignore me I can be um.... persistent 3)he will probably never admit it but I think even he is a little fascinated by the concept and results I get mono printing.

Maybe I'll try to post from my phone or tablet, haven't gotten that to work before but I did mention persistent - maybe a better description would be stubborn.

.... and I've already decided to cut that part of the print out and frame it for my craft/art room.

Stacy, I scrolled through the blog photos again, and agree that most don't look much like marble. Except a few in the three vertical groups of four kind of do if you imagine them with different colors and isolate them (cover the ones around them). I used to occasionally visit stone yards to source granite/marble/quartz slabs, and a few prints put me in mind of some granite or marble.

I've not watched the video, so this may be in there already. But I remember once watching one of those makeover type programmes, and a designer was putting fake marble veins onto a painted surface, by first adding a line of paint using a fine brush, then dragging it further, and into side shoots, using a feather.

Shazsilverwolf, that is what I was doing, I first added very thin veins with a paint brush. I think next time I would add a thin uneven layer of white first to push the veins back because they were just lines laying on top of everything when I did them first.

I've also realized I need a different white paint, it is a color I'll probably use up quickly anyway. I thought about pearl white as a first layer but I don't think that would give the right finish. I need something thinner and maybe glossier, the paint I used resulted in a very matte finish, so not the look of marble. Experimented with micro glaze on my clean up page but I'm not sure if it would work over acrylic paints long term since it is laying on top of the paints instead of absorbing into the paper. I'm afraid it will rub off over time and besides it didn't add enough shine anyway.

Yep I need to experiment some more, too bad there will be no time for it today. Have I got ya'll itching to give it a try too? Bjeans how about you?

If you are looking for a thin-bodied white that dries glossy, you might try Golden Titanium White in either fluid or high-flow. The high flow is so liquid that you can put it in one of those needle bottles and literally write with it.

I thought about high flow just wasn't sure about the gloss level. Thanks Rachelrose. Okay I've taken a picture hope this works:

Do you see the baby with sunglasses? Think picture taken with a slight fisheye lens effect.
