Default Mounted Stamp MISTI hack...

Inspired by Heather's Duplo stamp positioner, I figured out a way to use my MISTI with wood stamps... YAY! All we need there is a higher corner to snug the stamp into.

They are the Legos for tiny hands. They are called Duplos (?). Remember getting these for my daughter when she was 2 or so.

The Misti is one of the major reasons I started unmounting my old rubber stamps.

I'm working on a video but I have some other projects to finish up first... I'll try to get it done this week.

My stamps are mostly unmounted but I have some 'collectibles' that I don't want to unmount, mostly older House Mouse and Pooh stamps.

It looks like the Misti is open and the duplos are being used as a stamp positioner? If so, I don't see the advantage over the stamp-a-ma-jig. I will be watching for the video.

Not really much different except the raised corner of the MISTI keeps the positioner from sliding.

Life piled up on me, Kathy! So sorry.

Wonderful that you have found a solution for the Misti with our wood stamps. Thank you so much Dina! Guess I will be checking the thrift stores soon.

Thank you, Dina! This is a great idea. This is much better than the stampamajig as the corner blocks stay in place. Going looking for some Legos/duplos.

I watched your video, Dina. Thank you

When I was starting out on this cardmaking odyssey, I purchased an Apple Pie memories Stamp Positioner Kit. Never really used it because I had a SAM (don't ask why I bought it???) Anyway, I never discarded it and even knew when to find it. It has a 3 1/2" X 5" X 1/2" (thick) acrylic 'L' shaped piece. I tried it in the MISTI using it like the Duplo blocks. IT WORKS! I'm too lazy to redo all my wood mounted stamp - not to mention the cost.

Now I know why I bought it, to keep for several years and find a use for my purchase.

Guess I will raid the huge Rubbermaid bin in our basement. Full of these things for the grandchildren. LOL

Also wondering if you put a magnet on the bottom somehow if that would help hold it into the corner.

Smile Stamp Positionner

I try to find doable ways of crafting that are quality, but inexpensive. Along those lines and since I don't have children, it occurred to me that I could use a strong right angle for a stamp positionner; specifically a large-enough capital letter L. I was searching for a wood version of this at my local craft store, and instead found one made of several layers of chipboard for $1.99. (Just be sure not to purchase one that has any serfs on the L.) Success!

Default Art Impressions stamp positioner

If you're willing to spend a little money the art impressions stamp positioner works great with the MISTI. I tried the Legos and mine were wobbly on me so I looked around for something a little sturdier. The AI positioner is made of acrylic and measures 3 1/2 inches on one side and 2 1/2 inches on the other side. It is a half inch thick. It is nice and sturdy and fits snugly into the corner of the MISTI. It is great to have the magnets to hold the paper down and the corner of the MISTI hold the stamp positioner in place. I'm really happy with this. I purchased mine for $10 from Darkene at DutchPaperCrafts. You can contact her at [email protected]. Her shipping is very reasonable and she also sells stamps and dies. Showing some pics of the positioner.

Just a quick add on, I really like the height of the art impressions stamp positioner in relation to the wood block. There is room for your fingers to fit as you are holding the wood black.

I haven't found any MISTI corners in stock yet, but I would think they would also work.

I don't think the MISTI corners would work for this. I don't think they're going to have enough height in order to reach up to the wood block of the stamp. You need the wood block to be able to bump up against something in order to get it in the same place over and over again. The creative corners are sized in height only for paper to bump against them.

Thanks, that is good to know. I haven't seen them in real life so it is hard to judge how thick they are and if they would work or not.

FYI, the My Sweet Petunia creative corners are 1/8" thick. If you stack the two L shaped magnetic corners that would give you 1/4" in height. This just isn't high enough to position a wood mounted stamp. The Art Impressions stamp positioner is 1/2" thick which works great to position the wood block. I have both of these and measured them. Of course, you could always buy two sets of the creative corners and stack four of them to get to 1/2". That would be expensive compared to the Art Impressions positioner.
BTW, I have found both of these options to be much more stable than the Lego/Duplo blocks. The Lego blocks always wobbled on me.
