How to deal with envelopes for sets of cards for gifts?
I plan on giving several sets of cards as gifts this year, and was considering making coordinating envelopes, but not sure how I would deal with the recipient sealing them. I generlly use my ATG when mailing a card. I was curious if anybody had any ideas or suggestions for me.

Another thought would be to make the closures like those envelopes you buy that you peel a protective layer off to expose the "sticky": Use your ATG, but cover it with a strip of something non-stick - maybe a backing sheet from stickers or something... Susie's idea is definitely easier (and cuter), though!
Depending on how many sets you are making and how many cards each, this roll could do it all. If you are patient, you could get 1/2 inch and cut it in half to stretch dollars.
I make note card sets as gifts at Christmas for the gals in my family.
I like to use my regular card envelopes, and then make envelope liners to coordinate with the notes. I don't usually have time to make the envelopes from scratch, but the lined envelopes spiff up the sets and are pretty quick to do.

A little off topic, but since we're talking about note cards, here is a great little note card set holder that I'm making this year. It's really cute, easy to make and only takes a sheet of 8-1/2 x 11, plus some layers to embellish:

I was so happy to see this! But the one third-party seller on Amazon is charging $49.00 ifor one bottle, and I don't see it sold in other US stores.
I think ScorTape will do for now, but I'll cut it longer than it has to be, cut the bottom to fit, which will mean the top is a little longer - like a tab.
Or maybe there's another tape that's super easy to separate. I'm concerned about eyesight and dexterity. So I also bought a bunch of pretty envelopes.
Thank you for all of the great suggestions! I do have some stickers, washi tape and double sided tape (what a surprise, right?), so I'll have to decide which to use. I've never lined a regular envelope, so may look into how to do that too.
Personally, while I like to craft with washi tape, I don't think it is sticky enough to reliably be used as an envelope seal on something I might be sending through the mail.
Neat! Someone please try it and report back. : D It doesn't come with an applicator so you have to brush it on. I read all the reviews, and it sounds like it could be a little messy or otherwise not the most fun ever, but some card makers like it a lot.
In the interest of time I decided to use plain white envelopes and line them with coordinating paper. I will try the diy recipe for making the envelope adhesive as soon as I get the ingredients and let you know how it goes.

It costs $50 here in the US! I think it's made in the U.K. Is it reasonable there?
I searched and searched for some a couple of months ago. I could not find it in any brick and mortar store here, and could only find the $50 stuff online, so when my old Stampin Up Lick and Stick ran out, I used Tear and Tape.
It might not be the best thing for hundreds of envelopes, but it's certainly useful for a very special and unique gift set. And it's a nice way to make use of those eyelets and brads in the back of the crafty stash. ;)
I have to say this year the bought Christmas cards didnt seal well-shimmer paper- so I was scotch taping them closed and I thought about this thread. I would advise agaist shimmer paper for envies now.

I use the "Scotch Photo & Document Tape" or "Scotch Scrapbooking Tape." Both come on rolls that you can tear off against a serrated blade, so makes it easy to use. They both seem to be the same tape, but sometimes I find one and not the other in the store. I always use my coupon, but they are not too spendy.

Great, thanks so much! I love ScorTape but don't think it would be the most user-friendly for non-crafters who aren't used to it.
The liner is larger than the tape, so it's easier to remove than Scor-Tape, and there's quite a lot of it on the roll.
Thank you, Elle! I don't always make envelopes - in fact rarely, but I enjoy it and would do it more with the right tape.
Any preference - from anyone - about 1/4" (the tape above) or 1/2" (the Scotch)? I suppose it wouldn't really matter since they're both good adhesives or wouldn't be recommended. : )
I have no preference on width, but the Scotch is readily available (with a coupon), I don't use it that much (so the large roll is not important for that reason), and I keep all my tapes in plastic refillable dispensers that all fit neatly lined up into one bin. Sorry I can't be of more help.
Funny I make up cards but I stopped making custom envelopes years ago. I used to purchase the Lick and Stick glue. I think I may still have a bottle of the glue somewhere in my room. lol Currently I purchase white or ivory envelopes and just use those. I still have lots of other colors too in my stash. My goal this past year was to use as many of the envelopes I had on hand. I've put a good dent in that stash. Still more could be used up.
In the past I've used: Lick & Stick, Double sided Tape - left the liner for the other person to remove, stickers, washi tape.

premade envelopes that I lined to match the cards for one set, and narrow double sided tape for another.
I liked both solutions and think I feel more comfortable with the double sided tape than a homemade concotion, plus I have a lot of double sided tape that I bought at a flea market.
BTW, the card sets were greatly received, so I will definitely be making more in the future.
