I just bought 2 8x8 embossing folders that are awsome BUT what machine do I run them through. My bug and Big Shot will only take up to 6x6. What was I thinking. Help

Google "how to use an embossing folder without a machine." There are a couple of videos about how to use a rolling pin instead. (Disclaimer: I haven't watched them or tried the technique.)

I think you'll need something like a Big Shot Plus,do you have a craft store near you with a larger sized machine that may let you use theirs for a small charge? Or any local crafting friends?

I have the Big Shot Plus - it's a great machine!

I've seen (somewhere?) someone using a larger embossing folder with a rubber mallet.

Personally I would just cut them down, mostly because I don't make large cards. Cut the 2" off the side and use it for borders etc. unless you want and can afford to buy another machine and plan to buy more larger folders in the future.

I hadn't heard of 8"X8" embossing folders until spotting your thread. So, I was compelled to look online.

Looks like one source of 8x8 ef's is Crafter's Companion. They sell the "Gemini" cutting & embossing machine, which will accommodate the 8x8's and a little more.

Or ... I still like Dina's suggestion ...

Well I tried the rolling pin idea, not stronge enough to make a dent. So Hubby cut them down to 6x6 and I still get the leaf veins and the brick and mortor look. Will pay more attention from now on. Thanks for everyones suggestions and help.

I second the recommendations to upgrade to the Big Shot Plus. There are so many nice embossing folders out there that don't play nice with the original Big Shot and Cuttlebug. The new Plus is fantastic!

Another vote for the BS Plus. Having the extra room really has a lot of benefits.

For this exact reason , when I had the cash to upgrade a few years ago, I went with a Big Shot Pro. The opening will take up to 12" x 12", and I figured no way would I ever outgrow that! Rarely used it for anything that big, I'm not a scrapbooker, but with all the 8x8" and A4 folders about now, I'm really glad I did.

If I had different furniture in my office/craft room, I'd spring for it. But I'm really happy with my Cuttlebug too. It holds the same size dies/folders as the regular Big Shot but takes up a tiny amount space when closed, and lives on the corner of my computer desk (not crafting table). So it's ready to go, and dies/folders/accessories are in a 2x4 Expedit to my right, separate from the rest of my crafting stash. Translation: away from the mess.

But if I had a big U of furniture along three walls, or even a long L along two...

I LOVE my Big Shot Plus! I just got mine last week and so happy I got the bigger one!!! I love the ease of it with a FULL sheet of cardstock that I no longer have to cut down before using it if I do not want to.

These sizes are great for making cards larger than A2. Many a time I've gone to make a 5X7 card and the folders were too small. 6x6 and above are great for 5x7 cards.
