I love Stampin Up very vanilla however I use so much i need something in bulk and more affordable. I had got some at Michael's which was OK but the most recent one was very yellow toned. any suggestions?
I haven't looked for a replacement for the Very Vanilla because I don't go through it that quickly. I've been more concerned with buying a decent white paper in larger quantities.
My SU demo, ( shhhhh....don't tell ) found a decent white card stock at a professional stationary store that you can buy in bulk. She splits a large purchase up between herself and a few of her regular stampers and we all get a bunch more paper at a decent cost.
So my suggestion is to check your city for a professional stationary store or some kind of paper supplier that sells to the public.
After that I'd suggest checking office supply places like Staples. But don't go by the listed paper weight on the package. You need to ask to see and feel the paper before buying. You will have to decide between "copy", "cover", multi-purpose etc..
Neenah Classic Crest...the line where you find Solar White...has what's called Classic Natural White that is the same color. It's available in 80 pound cover, 100 pound cover, and 110 pound cover. You can also get envelopes to match. The quality is outstanding.
Ditto Neenah Classic Crest. Many big box stores carry Neenah, but it's Exact Index - not that one.
If you go to Neenah's website, you can order a bound sample set so you can see all of their colors (small squares). The website can be confusing, but if you call them, someone will walk you through the process. Neenah Paper | Letterpress, Colored, and Textured Paper Company
You can buy reams from them, Amazon, other places, but also small packs from Simon Says Stamps, Ellen Hutson, others.
110 pound for bases, 80 for layers - inking, layering, etc. I'm in a little on-line class now, and the instructor said that 80 pound is smoother for blending. I never noticed that but she could be right.
I buy Cougar brand white and natural in 100 lb from MarcoPaper. Good prices and great people. Very smooth & luscious.
I am a Cougar cardstock user/fan. After a close by paper store closed, I searched and found it available on Amazon for same price, free ship. It's about $23 for 250 sheets, which suits my cost-conscious side. :cool:
Cougar natural 100 lb is a luxurious, elegant paper, and just the right weight for card bases and die cutting. I use the 80 lb for anything that has to go through my printer because it's the perfect non-jam weight.
Another thing I adore about Cougar is that the finish is just right - not too slick, not too porous. Versafine onyx black ink is my fav and it stamps/dries with no smearing, every time. A bugaboo with SU vanilla cs is that the surface is so non-porous that a lot of inks smear on it if they aren't heat set. So Cougar gets a 5 star rating for that feature alone, in my book!
Just checked Amazon and Cougar Natural 100# is $19.95, free ship for 250 sheets!! Wow, that's even better than when I bought it last.
This sounds great, but I can't find the 250 sheets of the Cougar Natural for $19.95 at Amazon. I see 100 sheets for that price. Perhaps they have sold out of the 250 sheet package?

Thank you for posting this. I ordered a 200 sheet ream of the Cougar white 110lb from Amazon for $21 and I love it. It is bright and sturdy and cost effective. I have not used it to color yet, but i will give it a try this weekend.

Hope you like it as well as I do! One coloring method I love to use with Cougar cs is to sponge ink on images with small eye-makeup sponges. It moves on the surface "just right" - I'm able to blend in colors from dye ink pads that I have handy. I just did a card today with an intricate mountain cabin scene using this technique and it took longer to open the ink pads than it did to color the image. So fun to do and the results are impressive.
P.S. I heat embossed the image on the card today and I think it really helped to make the sponged ink go on more evenly and helped with the blending, too.
