You have probably heard on the news, Halloween is second to Christmas for the amount of money consumers spend. I find that incredible!
For the people of Canada, Halloween traditions were brought to our Country by the Irish and Scottish immigrants. In the United States it is believed that many of the Halloween traditions originated from Celtic Harvest Festivals and that this festival was Christianized as Halloween. But, there are some who say Halloween began independently as a solely Christian holiday. Whatever the case, Halloween is celebrated in both the United States and Canada on October 31st, and traditionally children parade around neighbourhoods dressed in their costumes and looking for candy, with the question "Trick or Treat?" The word "trick" refers to the "threat" to perform mischief on the homeowners or their property if no treat is given, clearly the "mischief" continues in many forms. When we were kids the use of toilet paper around the bushes was big.
