Default Embossing Powders

A couple weeks ago, my beautiful 18 mo son dumped out all my embossing powders on my bedroom carpet. <sigh> About $30 worth of it. (powder, not carpet ;) )

So, now I need to replace it ALL--clear, white, UTEE, black, gold, silver, copper. (I had other colors, but I now have all the craft spots, so clear and these others should keep me covered.)

My question is: Is there really a big difference between SU embossing powders and other brands? Are there some good ones at Michael's and Joann's I could use coupons with? I had only used non-SU before, and never thought it was terrible, but that was before I became an SU addict. So now I need info from the experts. What should I do?

Having used both SU! and other brands, I'd say it's time to give your demo a call!

Hi!
I highly suggest detail embossing powder, it's a finer grade of powder great for detailed images. As well as ultra thick embossing powder. But clear, gold and silver are my stand by's.

I haven't used the SU EPs but am sure they would be good quality. Michael's carries Stampendous brand - have lots of these & very happy with them; prefer the finer grain of the 'detail' EP,especially when embossing words. ACM carries several Ranger brands, including the new Distress EPs...which I love & are next on my list. I would not use Joann's 'generic' brand of EP - don't have it but just don't like the looks of it, especially when I can get the name brands for the same or less $$$.

I've used Mike's EP's and after trying SU's I'll never go back. I strongly recommend SU's - after I got theirs I got rid of all my other stuff!

I haven't used SU but have had a lot of success with Michael's and Joann's.

I just go buy a new color everytime I have a 40% off coupon, and then it's really cheap

(Of course, I don't buy anything else while I'm there, so that could be difficult)

I love the SU detail and Iridescent Ice powders, but I'll admit to a moment of weakness in Michaels the other week when they had all of their powders on sale. I bought a Stampendous brand "Marcasite" powder, and it's stunning. They had a bunch of different jewel names, and I wish I'd picked up a couple more!

SU's fine detail black ROCKS! I won't use any other brand of Black EP. Others seemed to stay behind more and ruin my cards. I've had the best luck with SU.;-)

I had embossed years ago and still have lots of powders left. Since using SU at a 10 for 10 I am slowly replacing and getting rid of mine. Need I say more. Don't waste your money on the others. No I am not a Demo for SU

I totally agree!!!! There's a difference and I have had other EP burn and/or discolor. I've never had that happen with SU's EP. Hope this helps.

Addicted to rubberstamps has a very large selection of embosing powders and the clear top ones are good size and VERY Reasonable! They have just about every color under the sun! I think they might even be having an easter sale! They have very fine detail kinds, and a little thicker grain too! I have them and some Stampin UP ones they all are great!

I've been told that SU's regular EP is similar to Michael fine detail EP. I don't like Mike's regular EP at all - SU's is wonderful! I think it's worth just getting SU's - you know it will be good and the price is quite comparible. Stick with what you know is good.

I am just amazed that you still called him beautiful LOL. Aren't our kids wonderful- ahhh you gotta love them. :???:
I would stick with SU. I have better luck with thiers, but that could definitely get spendy. Maybe just buy a couple of your favorites to get started.

I bought some detail embossing powder there too and thought 'wow this is cool'. It was my first time with detail EP. Then I bought some SU detail EP and have never used the Mike's stuff again.

I really like SU's EP. I have some stuff from Michaels and JoAnns and I just hate it. I wish I had never bought that stuff. I love SU's and use it a lot. I use the clear EP all the time with my craft spots.

I just bought more crystal clear and I decided to buy some UTEE (ultra thick embossing enamal.) for doing the cracked glass technique.

Default Joann embossing powder

I just used some copper powder from Joann. I used an embossing buddy as usual but after heating, there is a dark shadowy residue on the whole area that I sprinkled the powder! I am using an eraser but can still see the shadow!!! Aarrggghhh!!!

Wow, I was going to say Stampendous Detail Powder, cause that's what I use, but then I read one rave for SU after another. I haven't used SU's since I first starting stamping, back when my SIL was a hobby demo. Is SU's really that much better than Stampendous?

I really like Judikins Embossing powder, both her detail powders and her color mixes.

I like Judikins and Hero Arts. Some of the WOWs are good too. Sparkle and Sprinkle has some nice colors.

I have seen that shadow effect. Sometimes Eps can separate, esp the metallics in my experience, so shaking them up to re-mix before use has helped me. But if you are getting to the bottom of a jar...more of the finer particulate might be left. Shake and then spill some out and see how it looks.

I bought a bunch of the WOWs when they first came out because I loved the colors, but they were too coarse for me, I could never get good detail with them. Maybe it was me. The DT members at PTI were using them and getting much better results than I was.

There are many excellent brands of embossing powder, including WOW, Ranger, Altenew, Hero Arts, etc. I suspect that many of them are made by the same company!!

I emboss everything all the time and I use SU! powders to be brand-loyal and because they are very fine. When I need colors SU doesn't offer I buy Zing, WOW and Ranger, as fine-grained as possible. Sad to hear about your powder collection! Mary Beth

How funny! I did not notice the dates which is weird because I avoid the old threads that rise from the grave somehow. My bad!
