I have the Ranger and when I compare it to white printer paper, it looks a little darker than the brilliant white printer paper. Haven't used it yet, though. I have a Prima watercolor pad too and it's even darker. I'll have to try that Fabriano one myself as well!
If you want a white-white watercolor paper, I'm afraid you're going to be disappointed.
Tim's (Ranger) paper is whiter than the Fabriano Extra White, but doesn't rival the quality of the Fabriano. And I agree with Lydia, the Fabriano hot-press is a dream for stamping. Arches has a bright white, but I have never seen or used it personally.

Kay Miller uses Master's Touch watercolor paper. She does get amazing results with this paper even though it's a cheaper brand.

I bought a very white pad at Hobby Lobby - the brand is Master's Touch and it is 140 lb. cold press.
Crafter's Companion sell the Spectrum Aqua extra white and it is also very white:
When I was at Blick's I asked for a white......they suggested Canson 140 lb cold press.
It is whiter than some others, but not sure it is the whitest.
TH is pretty white, but my watercolor always bleeds thru due to lighter weight. I have a light touch with water and paint too.
I read a lot of expert watercolor...ers like the TH paper.....am I just too fussy about the color bleeding thru?
Maybe this was addressed already.....but what is the diff between cold and hot press?
One difference I know of between hot press and cold press watercolor paper is the texture. Hot press is smooth so it makes a nicer surface for stamping. Shelley

It comes in several styles/sizes. I've used it for years.
I'm fond of and also use Arches and Fabriano but the Kilimanjaro bright white is the whitest of the whites that I've found. I also watercolor so not sure about stamping but the hot press surface should be fine for stamping.

The Tim Holtz watercolor paper is pretty white. It comes in A2 size, as well as 8.5x11.
When I run out, I will need to try the Fabriano Extra White that Lydia mentions.
Ditto - and nicely textured on one size and smooth on the other. The Tim Holtz and Ranger brands are identical, just different sizes.
As long as you're not overworking the paper, they're lovely. They would not be considered the professional quality of a Fabriano. But as long as you're not intensely working the paper with layer upon layer of paint or tons of water, I've found them to be terrific. Sometimes "quite good" is great, and the whiteness rings my chimes for many cards.
I just happened to grab them from an LSS after Jennifer McGuire recommended them and have been pleased.
I bought the Master's Touch and it is quite white. I didn't like using it. It pills like crazy if you work it the least little bit. Tim Holtz is better but I like Arches hot or cold press the best. Unfortunately it's not white. I'll try the Fabriano. Thanks for the suggestion.

I echo your sentiments on the Master's Touch brand WC paper. It did not perform well for me using ANY of my different WC products - Derwent WC pencils, Zigs, Peerless....besides not getting good results, the paper had a weird mini line texture that just didn't look like real watercolor paper. The best thing about it was that it was a nice white.
I'm checking out the Crafter's Companion Watercolor cardstock that someone recommended. Trying to find the best price with free shipping...
I am no chemist but always assumed that really white paper probably had a higher residual bleach content to make it that white. Maybe that is why it tends to break down and pill.
Then again it is only an assumption on my part and we all know what they say about assuming things... ;)

Thanks for the link and the info. I checked it out and the pad I would want to buy is on backorder right now, so I will put it on my wishlist!

I don't have any connection to Cheap Joe's but it is a good, reputable place. It isn't a discount house of "seconds" like the name sounds. I used to live close by and if you are ever near Blowing Rock, North Carolina, be sure and drop by Cheap Joe's. The view is beautiful! I miss being able to drop by since I no longer live there.
