Default So what is your cat up to?

Mine got tired of me not feeding him every time he wanted and tore up one of my new ornaments from today's tutorial! Luckily I got to it before it was a total loss, but kitty isn't speaking to me at the moment! Guess its a sure sign that Christmas is getting close....what's your kitty up to?

I heard the distinct sound of a kitty throwing up yesterday from the direction of my craft room, but I have yet to find it :( Ugh.

On a lighter note, my cat Gilly was moving behind a baby gate in the house and scared my Great Pyrenees tonight. I've never seen a 100-pound dog leap in the air, barking! Poor guy but it was pretty funny.

Thank God, I'm not alone! LOL He's purring again because I gave in and fed him.

If I find out that there's kitty throw up on any of my paper, you'll hear me screaming all the way over where you are, Kathy LOL ::getsuptoseeifshecanfindit::

Mine is running up and down the hallway right now. If he's chasing one of his toys, it's a quiet one, so that's a plus. Still, it's a good thing I'm not trying to sleep... yet. ;)

Poppydarling, I hope that you don't find the kitty barf by stepping in it. That would be my type of luck...

My goofy cat goes under the Christmas tree then takes off at full speed across the house. Another thing, she takes the plastic ring from the top of milk and tries to hide it under the tree skirt, then wrestles with the skirt to try and find it. I sure hope the tree stays standing.

We haven't got the tree yet (raining here and our backs are sore from traveling) so he's slumbering in his chair, instead of under the tree. But when he was a kitten in 2010 I used non-breakable fabric and paper ornaments. The little rascal LOVED the paper wreaths! We would find them in pieces at the base of the tree and he tore up the cheap fake snow tree skirt from Walmart. Last year was the first year since then that I used the glass ornaments again.

Raising hand....happened here a couple of weeks ago. Luckily I was wearing an old pair of footies that could be tossed!

I now closed the craft room door and most other crafts are hanging too high for him to reach.

I'm trying to train my 2 cats in the concept "the kitchen is closed" - in that if they insist on being let out the door after 9pm, they will spend the night outside. The male cat thinks my purpose on this earth is to let him in and out that door (any door!) and to open a can of goodies at all hours of the day and night. He is like a dog, in that he gets up into my face and howls, prances around, and starts licking my face if I don't get up and give him what he wants. Isn't that just like a man

It started raining at 2am this morning, and he started howling at the front door. He doesn't do water and he desperately wanted back in the house. So everyone was up by 2:30am and he is now asleep in the huge dog bed (and poor dog is sleeping along side her bed cause he took it over!) while the rest of us face a long day with strong coffee:(

Maybe the cat is training me... It has not escaped my notice that I am viewed as a can opener on 2 legs...

My 'Big Orange Freak' is livin' large! His butt is usually covered with glitter or embossing powder or sequins...whatever I am working on at the time...and I am telling you ..that's a BIG butt! He is 19 lbs. When he sits around...he sits around!! LOL Mostly he just sleeps, sits around and stamps with me or protects the house from marauding squirrels, racoons and coyotes!!

My 2 kittens have not yet learned that the only place in the house off limits to them are the kitchen counters and my stamping desk. My previous cats were so well trained that I thought the kittens would be too. I'm finding muddy little paw prints on envelopes, scrap paper and completed pieces......sigh.

The smart one gets it when I yell and clap and stomp when she's on the desk. The not-as-smart on is clueless. He stands where he is, on the desk, looking around for what is causing me to act this way. Even when I pick him up and put him down, he doesn't have a clue that it's him. I can't use a spray bottle because that would ruin the papers.

My cat loves to watch me craft. She runs into the craft room and cries. They sure are crazy animals. If she had thumbs she would be making her own cards.

Victoria, there is a motion sensored device that makes a loud sound that you can keep on your counters. I know Amazon carries it.

I've had to put child proof latches on my bottom cabinets to keep the male cat from walking all over my clean pots, pans and bowls. Frustrating. If there is a closed door, he wants it open to see what is inside.

I've learned to never have any food items on my kitchen cabinets and so far, neither of them have jumped up there to explore.

Since I buy a lot from Amazon, I have a ton of boxes in various sizes. I tape them together, cut holes in them to create doorways, put lids on them to create cubby holes, etc. There is a little box city under my day bed and under the tables. They have played in that a lot. Used it as a scratching post, chased each other, hid in it, chewed on the edges (teething?), slept in it - I've gotten some mileage out of those boxes.

I bought a Nerf gun to keep him off the counter. Haven't had to use it yet. All I have to do is pull back the loader and he seems to know what might happen and disappears!

victorial - maybe try using canned air to "chase" him off the desk and tell him no? He's a male though, so that may not work either.

Classic!

I love your little box city idea. With all the stuff I order from Amazon Prime, I could definitely do this if only 100-pound dog didn't fight the cats for the boxes! When he was a crazy chewing puppy I trained him to chew up the cardboard recycling instead of my house and he's never lost the taste for a fresh chewy box or unopened bill

She may be talking about the cans of air you buy to spray your computer keyboards. But with my Nerf gun I can chase him from a further distance! LOL

My cat sleeps. And eats. And sleeps. Wanders around outside periodically. Sleeps. Eats.
That's about it.
Except for that time he brought a live squirrel into the house......

We use spray bottles filled with water. I can shoot from the loveseat across the livng room to the top of the sofa where she is trying to climb the blinds.

We adopted Sammy in 2013 and he was 18 months old. He loves to jump, so for a long time there was nothing out of his reach. Top of china closet, no problem, top of refrigerator, piece of cake. I thought to myself, what did I get myself into. He has calmed down with age, but still loves to sit on my c/s and dp whenever I have it laid out. Get my laptop out and put it on the table. got to lay on that. Phone rings, no matter where he is, once I answer the phone, he is right along side me demanding my attention. Gotta love them!

For YEARS I had cats, LOVE cats!! My last little furball passed and hubby suggested a small young dog.

What a difference! Dogs can sit and use their paws, whine, talk, bark and always want to EAT. But this one doesn't lay on my paper, jump on my table or persist when he knows I'm on my last nerve. He doesn't swat at my ribbons or run with them into other rooms. He doesn't run off with my embroidery thread and taunt me to chase him.

He minds, most of the time depending on whether or not food is involved.

I loved my cats...but my dog has shown me why people like dogs.

On the other hand, cats are smarter than to chase down the neighbor and bite them. They don't growl everytime a human or anything larger than a bug walks on the sidewalk or street or grass. They do chase leaves which can be dangerous...when cars are in their streets. Cats never try to answer the door or go home with the Pizza delivery person.

I miss my cats!

Thanks Brenda! The canned air is the perfect solution. I will pick some up today when I'm in town.

I love him fully and completely, my little orange and white tabby, Ziggy Stardust.....but he's not the smartest cat I've ever had.

I'm glad I could help.

I have a Bengal cat, that helps me craft whether I want him to or not. He's a momma's boy and doesn't want much to do with DH, DD or the 2 dogs that like to chase him. So I put a baby gate on my craft room doorway, that he can jump over but the dogs can't.

I did my first ever YouTube video of my craft room (in the basement, just before I was going to move it to the mail floor - I wanted a memory of it). And my cat followed me around the room meowing, unknown to me he was louder than I was. I'll try to post a link here, but don't be too harsh. I didn't know I should turn my phone sideways. But I'll know next time.

Brenda--your craft room is fabulous! I really mean it. I wish I had a modern phone so I could show my craft space just to make people laugh. I stamp in a corner of my living room, a cluttered, dirty space holding 15 years of supplies, half-finished projects, paper scraps everywhere, etc.

Thank you. It was a very nice room, but it had no windows. I felt like I was in a cave. We had an unused office on the main floor that has 3 windows. I've got most everything moved up there. Of course the "kitchen" cabinets in the basement room didn't come upstairs. I was able to get 3 new pieces from Ikea (my first visit ever) for the new space. And I moved all the cubes, the large table and the paper cabinet upstairs. I still have a few things in the cabinets in the basement, but it's stuff I don't use often. I'll be taking a new video of the relocated room soon. I want to make curtains for the windows first.

Yeah...that's what my craft room in heaven looks like...Add windows...will I need windows?
Read this whole thread and I'm glad I don't have pets anymore. LOVED my cats, who were very well-mannered and not destructive (except would eat ribbons on gifts under the tree, so ribbons would be added right before giving). In Tulsa, it's against City Code for cats to be outside, so my cat never touched earth.

If it's the stuff I think it is the can gets cold.

When we had cats, they quickly learned the water spray bottle and just the sight of it had them stop their bad behavior. Most of the time it was empty!

I'm in bed. I hear a noise. I go out in the living room only to find my little Christmas tree laying on the floor for the third time. I give up. It gets put away tomorrow. Little brat wins because I'm too tired to fight.

I hate it when I hear a crash at night. Usually something of mine has been knocked to the floor by HERSELF. This cat has broken more things than my two children ever did. As for your tree, how little is it? Could you tuck it in a cupboard at night? Or could your cat have an area to sleep which prevents access to the tree? Never give up! Don't let the cat win! Gee, do I ever know how you feel.:?

Well the 'Big Orange Freak' aka Mr. Rocky Meowboa has discovered a new 'trick'. Seems that he is now heavily into paper..particularly the paper from my shredder! Just discovered my craft room floor covered with 1/4" strips of paper....not funny Mr Meowboa!! Grrrrr......

Its little, but too big to put away each night. I put stuff on the stool next to it so he can't sit there because that was where he was first knocking it over. I'm not sure how he's reaching it now because he seems to do it when I'm not looking. The good news is I saved the Christmas Star Ornament he tried to pull apart in the craft room the other day!

Oh my.....we are taking in my mom's two cats for the month of January and these posts have me VERY nervous! We have a small dog who has been a dream, never chews what she shouldn't, is very friendly and obedient, etc. She's been around the cats before and done fine, but reading all these posts has me nervous for my HOUSE and myself. The cats will be about seven months old when we have them. Will I go crazy?

They will be in a strange environment, so they will explore everywhere they can get to. Close your doors. I ALWAYS closed my cats in the laundry room at night, with food, litter box and nightlight. As new kittens I added a ticking clock. I had no complaints. If you don't restrain them, they will wander at night and wake you up, just because they want to. Your dog may get territorial with the strangers in her house.
Cats will never act like dogs, so don't expect obedience.
