Challenge Title: Notan Technique Hostess: Dizzymommie (Janelle S) Keyword: MIX180 Check out the gallery for this week's challenge!
Hello and welcome to another week of mixed media fun! Yes, this is a challenge where we encourage you to take baby steps in mixed media techniques that will have you saying, I CAN do it. Use the challenge on cards, scrapbook pages, altered items and more, whatever suits your creativity. This week I've unlocked my inner grade school art projects and I think you will enjoy it, too. Keep it simple, remember to add at least two mixed mediums before you are done and have fun! My challenge this week is to use the concept of contrasting light and dark shapes with the Notan technique, specifically Dow's Notan. More than just using contrasting colors (specific values), use the notan technique that includes designing in harmony and balance.
Information about Notan can be found on an internet search for "Japanese Notan". I found this website to be an interesting read.
Notan with 1 1/4 inch square of monoprint, embossed or pattern paper for an A2 card.
Notan with dies or cut freehand
If you are still not jumping on the challenge wagon with me, try Split Negativetechnique from the Splitcoaststampers archives, just remember to add in the mixed media twist.
Upload a mixed media project to your gallery and remember to add the keyword "MIX180" so it will appear in the challenge gallery. I can't wait to see what you and your mojo create!

Well Janelle - when I first read this challenge I thought - NO WAY - closed the computer and went to work - but it kept niggling at me so when I got home I figured -" it'll be a learning experience" and that's why I joined SplitCoast! Here is my feeble attempt at Notan: Butterfly You're a Star! by bubblestx4 - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers
