This thread works differently ... Nobody is "up" ... Folks just post what they are offering (and, occasionally, what they need/want).
Additionally, it works on the honor system in that if you claim something, you offer something but nobody tracks it.

I looked at the last few pages of the 2015 thread and the only "open" item I saw was a request by Christy. I am linking to post #808 of the 2015 thread for anyone that wants to read it.
Forums at Splitcoaststampers
I'm sure Christy can post it here too.
Happy New Year!

this thread is for listing anything that you'd like to pass along.
You may be able to make a list of things you might need, but that's really not the objective of this thread.
When you'd like to pass something along, simply list it/them in RED then state if the person wanting the item/s needs to grab it here or in a private pm.
If you'd like to "play" on threads that have people giving away items, then you put up a list of items to give away, please visit the PIF threads.
Be sure to read the very first box/begging of each one to get the idea of how they work.

I see. I think I know how it works now. Just not so sure why some PIF has price range, it's kind of like selling your items at reasonable cost? I read the 1st thread of 2015 - I though things are free to give rather than has prices. How is this different than buying/selling forum?
Thank you for taking the time to explain.

I don't mind explaining at all.
The reason that we had to put prices (or rather price ranges) on items was because people were taking advantage of another person's generosity. Person A would list high dollar (retail) items and Person B would "snag" and then list low dollar items.
By putting a price range on items people are more accountable.
The difference between the buy/sell forum and the PIF threads would be the companionship/friendships that are built. There is often bunches of chatting, a smaller group of people play, and after awhile you get to know what other like and can put up items that you know will be snagged. Basically friendship and sharing instead of buying.
Hopefully this makes sense for you.

and now that I've re read your post, I believe that I've explained everything all wrong!
THIS thread (and the 1st thread of 2015) are GIVE AWAY threads. You do list what you'd like to pass along.
The OTHER threads that I posted links to have the price ranges, and I tried to explain those threads in my last post.
hmmm. I do hope that I haven't confused you further!!

Yes, this is just a genuine pay it forward thread. If you have something to give away, you post it. Whoever wants it sends you a PM. You send it to them.
No convoluted rules, no lists, no money exchanging hands.
It's nice if you have accepted a pif from someone to eventually offer something here you'd like to give away, but it's NOT required.
It's just a nice way of finding a new home for things you don't need or use.
I know there are a bunch of "pif" threads, but most of those seem to require you to immediately put up a list of offerings, so it's not really Pay It Forward, it's an exchange program. On those if you take an offer, you then are REQUIRED to make an offer.
Here, if you want what's offered, OK. Nothing is required (except maybe a thank you?)
Hope this clears it up.

Still available.
Also, can someone explain to me the other PIF threads with the dollar amounts (that were referenced in this thread earlier)? I went to look at them thinking that I might pass on some SU sets, but I'm not allowed to post in those threads. Does anyone know why?
Thanks.

really? you are not allowed to post in them? that's weird...
when they put them in the "pif" area maybe they only allowed original people to go in..
maybe that is why we can't get new people in there?

basically, you "snag" something off someone's list...and then put up a list usually starting with 3 items of the value of the thread....retail value normally...unless let's say something is awfully stained...you be reasonable with the value...
then you put up more stuff each day til you get a snag....

I have things that I would love to give away I will have to go home and take some pictures. I know PIF is free but is it okay we ask the snagger to pay for shipping?? Or is that even too much since we have to cover shipping as well?

Because the other PIF threads are Swaps, new members are required to join the swap forum before being able to post in those threads.
They are fun but work differently from this thread so please make sure you understand how they work.
Happy Crafting!

Well, nobody ever has asked for the taker to pay shipping that I know of. I guess you could state that in your offer. Does that mean that you would also offer to pay shipping if/when you accept someone's offer? It gets complicated. I know I have to limit what I can offer, because of the cost of shipping, but for me, at least, the whole spirit of the Pay It Forward concept is a giving without strings. I'd personally hate for us to get into a whole complex rigamarole here. This has been such an unstructured thread- it's nice to not have a ton of rules, with all the offers, forms, and ways to list regulated.
That said, I know there have been folks who have posted in the Buy/Sell/Trade that they had stuff they would give away just for the cost of postage. That's perfectly acceptable.

lol...I had posted before too...but computer went bonkers shut down and ate my words...lol
(the computer ate my homework)
what I said about shipping is it's supposed to be free also....what I do so that shipping is the least expensive is I just offer a box...ship it off to whomever takes it, if they like some they can pass on the rest...if they like it all...they can keep it all...if they like nothing..they can pass it or donate....

Were they tasty words, and did the computer get indigestion?
I usually end up hollering for dh when the computer does something weird- he's a software engineer. That can be dangerous, though- one time I mentioned my computer was running slow, and next thing you know, it was in pieces across the floor for TWO WEEKS. (Moral of that story- threaten to use HIS computer if he's got mine in bits- it speeds the process up a whole lot!)
