Default Recollections (Michael's) Cardstock

In another thread, one I cannot find, a few people mentioned using Michael's brand (Recollections) 110# cardstock as a base for their cards. I just wanted to reply and say thank you, Thank You, THANK YOU!!!

I am learning that not all cardstock is the same--not even when they are the same weight.

I really like the very affordable Georgia-Pacific 110# white cardstock from Walmart for my stamping/Copic needs. But after replenishing my cardstock with the Michael's brand in preparation for the Hope You Can Cling To challenge, I realize the Georgia-Pacific brand is flimsy in comparison.

Yes, the Michael's brand is costly ($13 for 100 sheets as compared to $6 for 150 sheets of Georgia-Pacific) but if I use a 40-50% off coupon, the cost difference is not so great and it makes the Michael's brand so worthwhile!

So again, to all who recommended Michael's Recollections 110# cardstock, Thank You! You've made my week!

I love it too and they have white, cream and black in that weight!

I have been using Neenah in white, but have the Recollections in black and I love it.

I just wish they would make a nice heavy Kraft color. And a really pale gray.

Then I'd be very happy!!! ;)

Another fan of Recollections cardstock! I get the black and kraft, and the multi-color packs when they are on sale. They are not as heavy as the white you are talking about, but are the perfect weight for layering, which I do on most of my cards.

Have you seen their Shimmer cardstock? It's gorgeous! They have white/gold (it's white with a subtle gold shimmer) and a combined pack of champagne and silver. The champagne is so elegant-looking, and the white/gold and silver are great for Christmas cards.

I have been enabled many, many times here, and just thought I'd return the favor.

I also am a fan of the 110# and I've recently started using the colored cardstock for die cutting because it's thinner.

Well, you get the credit. But I must tell you I am very easily influenced.

By the way, want to tell everyone how very much I enjoy coming here and the fun back and forth we have with each other.

I totally agree, we do have a great bunch here. I'll be heading to Michaels looking for some shimmer, should add that extra pizazz to my holiday cards. I'm easily enabled, and often feel guilty for caving. I feel so much better knowing shimmer caving has the "Bugga Seal of Approval". Thanks Bugga!

FYI - I've used alcohol markers (Spectrum Noir, in my case) to color shimmer cardstock, and it looks AMAZING! I colored some purple and embossed it to use as a background for a Halloween item last year (or the year before?):

You can't see the shimmer that well in the pic, but it's very shimmery IRL. This panel is in a frame - this pic is just a closeup...

I am so happy to hear that the recollections brand is catching on. I started using it when it first came out, after it was recommended by a friend. Now, I rarely use anything else for card bases. It is great for "copicing". When I first started singing it's praises here, no one seemed very interested. So I am happy to hear crafters have tried it and, to quote Sally Fields..."They like me, they really like me." Happy crafting...Bobbi

I did not even think of looking for shimmer. I remember when I was looking, I was a bit overwhelmed as my Michael's had its single sheet cardstock in one place, Recollections card-size cardstock in another and the letter-size Recollections in a third. When I finally saw white 110# I grabbed it and left. Now I need to go back and get some shimmer. I think that would be PERFECT for Christmas!

Sue, I will definitely have to try your technique. It almost looks metallic! I have never considered using my Copic markers to completely color a background. I think I'll have to give that a try. Yours is so very beautiful!

I'm thinking of running up today. If I find it, I'll take a picture of the package...or is it single sheets? Anyone know?

With so many of us buying Recollections #110 cardstock .... perhaps Michaels' will NEVER consider discontinuing it! It's all I use for cardstock bases and I love it. Now I can't wait to try their shimmer cardstock!

It's in a package. At the two Michael's I go to it is on a shelf in the aisle with the loose scrapbook papers. The 110# and the 65# are on the same shelf and not easy for vertically-challenged crafter's to see.

Michael's currently has a 50% off coupon on it's website - good for today only. Let's go get some paper!!!

I tried to print a coupon before I left but it said to check back later because they were having issues. I didn't want to wait around. I don't really need it so I'll wait until I go again.

I love the Recollections papers. I haven't bought the shimmer (yet) because its 19.99 here, but if there's a 50% off coupon I think I'll have to get some for my Christmas cards (not that I don't have 10000 sheets of paper I could use already). I also found packages of velum that is really nice as well in the Recollections brand. They use to have some really nice acetate sheets as well, but I think they discontinued it. :(

Like Bobbi, nobody really paid attention when I first started praising the upgraded Recollections papers. I've always felt like alot of crafters here poo-poo'd it, but in my experience, its a fantastic product for a great price. And it is the best - THE BEST - for using in the electronic die cutters. I've had my cutting machines for about 10 years and have always used it without any problems.

I think I will call myself a paper snob and say I only use Recollections.

I love it, too! I use it as a a replacement when I run out of PTI (also thick and lucious but wow, the shipping is killing me!)

I haven't been able to get the Rec. #110 to go through the printer - even with adjustments. Sure wish I could, but in the meantime, it's AWESOME as a card base and stamping images!

Count me among the people who thought "meh.." about the Recollections. I assumed that all of it would be the same as the multi-coloured packs (which are great for cutting or for layers, but a bit light and flimsy as a base). Then I bought a pack of the #110 and couldn't believe it! The first sheet I pulled out to make a base I thought I'd died and gone to heaven -- and I didn't have to order it online!

I got a pack of that Recollections shimmer recently, too. Great with a coupon and it is really gorgeous and a nice weight for layers.

Here is a wedding card I made using the Recollections #110 ivory as the base and the shimmer for the die-cut pieces (notice how the shades match perfectly -- like a matte and shimmer of the same shade!)

Your card is beautiful Carol, the design and matching envelope are absolutely gorgeous. Thanks for sharing! I love the shimmer paper, and can't wait to pick some up. I would jave gone today, but just couldn't get away. I'll have to take my DH with me so I can use two coupons.

A while back I bought a package of Rec#110 and when I got home and ripped the pkg open I was surprised to see the shimmer. Darn it. And since I had ripped the pkg open (my usual way of opening things, by the way) I couldn't return it. So I put it away and thought I would give it to one of my stamping friends. And forgot all about it. Now I am reading how great it is. So I'll be bringing it out and using it. All thanks to all of you who sang it's praises. Thank you. Now, I wish Rec. would come out with 110# grey (I think they have it in 65#) and kraft. Maybe that will be my wish when I blow out the candles on my birthday cake. Happy Stamping...Bobbi

Recollections has a grey kraft in their regular weight that I love - I would kill or die (exaggerating, but only a little!) to be able to get both the regular kraft and the grey kraft in the 110#!!

I have both of the current shimmers, but back in the day they sold a pack of jewel-tone shimmers (red, dark blue, dark green, purple, gorgeous brown) and I bought a few packs. I really wish they'd bring those back! Although seeing the card Sue posted, I'm thinking I could use my alcohol inks and get some pretty nice colors.

Here's a card I made using the white/gold shimmer; it embosses beautifully! I made 80 cards to use as Christmas birth announcements. 80 snow globe shaker cards - even now I can't believe I did it. But I had advance notice and was well-paid!

Wonderful card. The sentiment is just perfect!

That is just the sweetest thing. The combo of the image and the sentiment for that occasion -- perfect!

And I agree, the shimmer paper embosses beautifully! It's an ideal weight for that.
