Smile need some ideas for colors for Christmas Cards

Hi,

I need some ideas for colors for Christmas cards. I was also wondering if any of the new In Colors would be good for Christmas cards.

Thank you,
Lisa

Default need some ideas for colors for Christmas Cards

I need some ideas for colors for Christmas cards. I am tired of using the same colors. I was also wondering if the new In Colors could be used.

Right now I have been using Real Red, Cherry Cobbler, Pear Pizazza and Mossy Meadow.

Thank you,
Lisa

I love silver, with navy or with a lighter blue like marina mist.
I also like lost lagoon with mossy meadow.
I think the new in color taupe would be nice with real red and white.

Also, if you have gold, just gold and white are so elegant and pretty together.

Night of Navy, Midnight Muse or Blackberry Bliss pared with silver is nice. IMHO Last year I made poinsettias using Crisp Cantaloupe. Everyone raved at them. Embossing your image in Gold or Silver can give a wow effect depending on the image and look you're going for. HTH

Cream and navy make good Christmas cards, as does burgundy and cream.

If you're doing whimsical or retro designs, then bright colors like lime green, hot pink, and turquoise are fun...

White cards with embossed images/sentiments in gold or silver with a bit of bling are very elegant and beautiful.

I like to take my color cues from any patterned paper that I'm working with (I have A LOT of Christmas!!!), so maybe look at your stash and see what color combos really make you happy and use those - even if you don't use the paper.

I would suggest you use colours you like as the images will make the cards Christmassy.

Crumb Cake, White and then one of Real Red, Cherry Cobbler, Always Artichoke, Old Olive or Pear Pizazz look good.
I'll also second/third the eggplant/silver and navy/silver combo.
Cream, Always Artichoke or Old Olive and Rose Red or Cherry Cobbler.
I've done snowflake cards in cream, pretty in pink, green galore and chocolate chip - most of those colours are retired now, but I'm sure there is something current that you could substitute.
Another combo I'm fond of is eggplant, a pale purple (lavender lace or wisteria), and bashful blue.
Cherry Cobbler, Artichoke or Olive and gold.
Navy, white and a pale blue

I don't remember where I got this link from but it's a Color Scheme Designer website that has different color schemes and lots of ways to choose colors you might want to work with.

It's fun to play with the different tools and things to click on. There are some combinations I would never think would work together but they do.

Pinks and Greens also go well together for Christmas

Here's a card I did in non traditional colors:

VLV December Week 1 by jkstieber - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers

I used Early Espresso, Crumb Cake, Ivory, and Baja Breeze (which is retired but you could use Pool Party or Lost Lagoon)

This is another card in my Gina K gallery that uses non traditional colors:

http://stamptv.ning.com/photo/purple...s?context=user

Again I used Early Espresso and Crumb Cake, and also Elegant Eggplant.

I've also used Blushing Bride and Pool Party with Red.

It's interesting to see this thread, I realize that I've been doing non-traditional so many years now that I'm ready to use red and green this year!

I am making a leap this year... using soft suede, elegant eggplant, wisteria wonder, and old olive, with gold embossing of the image!

There are some great ideas here! I love non-traditional colors for Christmas. I like Basic Grey/Blushing Bride, Pool Party and White, just a blue like Baja and white or Pool Party and white.

My card this year I'll simplify it a bit. (I made this one at a class I went to-so not my design!)- Pool Party, Basic Grey, Lost Lagoon, WW, and Pear Pizzazz.

I suggest finding a patterned paper or a patterned paper collection and use colours from that. You don't necessarily have to use that patterned paper but at least you get a great combo

Wrapping paper is another good inspirational source. I've created a couple of cards inspired by it. Fabric can be inspirational too. Christmas paper & fabric beginning to appear in stores soon, if not already.

I got the October Better Homes and Gardens mag in the mail the other day. The cover really caught my eye because of the Fall colors of golds, browns, oranges but then they used Teal as a background color. I would never have thought of Teal! So, look at colors in magazines, especially the covers.

I agree that if the image is whimsical you can use many non traditional colors I.e. Lawn Fawn.

White and gold is always elegant, especially if the gold is foil for shimmer or gold embossing the sentiment.

I've been on a purple, white and silver kick They look so elegant together and it isn't traditionally holiday. I use different shades of purple in the same card.

Good luck!
