Hello everyone! How do you organize your rolls or spool of ribbons? I'm currently looking for the best way to store my ribbons. I appreciate your help!:p
Well I have stored ribbons a couple ways. I found plastic baskets with holes in the sides and used awooden dowels to hold the spools. When my ribbons supply began to grow and grow, it was time to try a different way. I use the Sterlite drawers and line them up by colors. That drawer is already out of control, so I might be going to the next drawer

Awesome idea! I haven't tried that storage solution yet, so I have put that on my list! TFS!
I'm all about corralling my supplies in the smallest space possible, so I remove all of the ribbons from their spools and store them, organized by color, in the smallest three-drawer Iris units. I start by wrapping the end of the ribbon around a pencil, then just roll it and roll it until the spool is empty and I have a little "spool" of ribbon with no bulky core. I've attached a picture. Lots of people have adopted Becca Feeken's idea, found HERE. Had I seen it before I had all of my ribbons done the other way, I may have followed suit!
I use the spring-type clothes pins. Just wind starting at the bottom and up and down until you get to the end, then use the clip part to hold it in place. I took my ribbon collection size down from 3 plastic shoe boxes to one.
I love my Ribbon Ring for ribbon storage! I am one of those "out of sight, out of mind" crafters. In other words, if something is tucked in a drawer, I don't think about using it. (No wonder my craft room is such a mess!)
My ribbon are on the RR tags and the tags are hanging from 2" rings. I have a 2" ring for each color.
I store my rolls/spools of ribbon in a shallow drawer organized by color. I don't use them often because I have a ribbon ring onto which yards of each color are placed. The drawer is only for overage. But it works for me.
Whoops, just realize that you wanted to know about "spools" or "rolls" of ribbon.
I tried hanging mine on a rod, but I'd pull on one and it would cause the adjacent rolls to turn, too. As mentioned, I use a Ribbon Ring but if I have a spool with a lot of ribbon on it, only 1-4 yards go on my Ribbon Ring tags and the rest of the spool goes into a drawer in my Sterilite (Iris-style) container.
You have to go onto Amazing Paper Grace. Look under tutorials and then organization. Then ribbon storage. She did an amazing job! I took her lead and did the same. I can't begin to tell you how much room I saved. Check it out!.
After trying many things, I believe I found the best solution! I bought picture shelves/rails from Ikea. They are 45" long. I have six of them, three for ribbon and three for punches. I love them! No longer do I have to take all of the ribbon off to get one in the middle. Just pull it off and put it back. They also store the punches nicely. Two rows fit on each one. I have a photo on my blog at stampingala under craft room or stamp room.

Totally agree with this and also love the Ribbon Ring. Also have a dot on the ribbon tags to indicate I have more on a spool. As for the spools themselves, I have those frosted ribbon holders/keepers (sold at target a few years back) and keep my spools in them. When I didn't use the ribbon ring, I had those sitting on my desk, and that worked really well, too. Of course, that was when I had desk space. Since I've converted to the ring system, I don't have that many spools, so now I've got a bunch of empty holders in my closet.

I love that ribbon ring idea as well! I have some ribbons that are not on the spools. That's a great way to save space.
My spools of ribbons are currently in a basket sometimes it's hard to see everything. Your suggestions are really helpful to rearrange some of my stuff here.
A friend, Tangii, told me about Becca's idea and I ran with it. We have a ribbon store in SoCal where you can buy 25 yds. of any kind and color for $3-$4. I am not going to keep those large rolls handy so I have a box in a closet for the unused ribbon. On each card in the drawer I have written how much I have left in the closet. It works for me. Actually I have moved into a 2nd drawer. The dimensions of the cards are 2" x 2 and 7/8" and I used heavy cardboard to divide the rows. I use a rubber band like thingy made for hair....I know you know what I mean. You can get them at Target. All my ribbons are at hand. Let me know if you have any questions.
I think it looks very nice, too. And apparently it has a pretty small footprint 7-7.5 in. I need something that doesn't take up too much space.
My organizers are in the closet but I'd love to have my A Muse ribbons front and center out on my desk. Of course, as long as the cats behave themselves .
The MFT Design Team is featuring ribbon storage for the Creative Chat this month.
I store my ribbon on popsicle sticks in glass jars. I store all my ribbon this way, as soon as I get a new spool I take it off the spool and add it to a popsicle stick. I can fit so much ribbon in such a small space doing it this way. I have tons of pictures on my blog today of my ribbon storage
I just put all mine on the ribbon ring. It hangs on the back of my door. I love it. When I get some more ribbon i will seperate them by colors. It was also quick and easy to put them on there. This is where I got mine Ribbon Storage Ribbon Organizer | Ribbon Ring
I love all the ideas. I went with the ribbon ring because I could put it on the back of the door. I have very limited space and this works for me. I have an over the door hanger that has 8 knobs on it that I do not use. So it works great for this.
I've had a ribbon purse for a few years & love it but since moving its in a cupboard & I don't use ribbon if I don't see it. So guess what arrived yesterday - I got the Simply Renee Clip It Up Ribbon Organiser. I can't wait to have it setup & use my beautiful ribbon again. If you a visual person I suggest you get something where your ribbon is right in front of you.

I purchased roll carts to store my ribbon in from The Container Store which I love! I know I'm not one to wrap ribbon around things to put away, this works great for me. You can see the carts on my website link:
I have 2 of the Clip It Up ribbon organizers. They're essentially like the rain gutter idea...but have a spot to store your scissors and a small bar below to hang ribbon remnants. You can find it on their site...and OMG ITS ON SALE!!!! SQUEEEE CLIP IT UP RIBBON ORGANIZER

Hope this is helpful to some of you out there. I am going to make one (ok, my husband will make it). Very functional as well as nice looking. I will try to modify it to add punches to store as well.

Well, I did get the new ribbon carousel -- it works and looks beautiful!!!
The problem is that my cats think so, too, and we got a new kitten shortly after I ordered it! I sort of jumped on a great offer - it was 40% off when I purchased it.
If anyone would like it at that price, just send me a PM ~~ I have a funny feeling I'll never be without cats ;) .
I have used Cropper Hopper embellishment boxes for probably close to 10 years now but they quit making different sizes. I now use The Box Depot 1.5"x1.5"x1.5" boxes, and they work just as well! I what I love about my system is that there are no creases, no pins, you can easily store scraps, and they hold ribbons, laces, and crinkled ribbon, etc. Truly my favorite way thus I guess it's why I haven't changed it in years!

My wonderful husband put up some gutters in my stamping area and I LOVE them. For small lengths of ribbon, I use paper towel tubes placed in a storage drawer and I throw the really small scraps in a bin.;)
