Internet Explorer is going away - and so is support for it
Hi everyone - just wanted to point out the news that Microsoft is finally killing off IE with the release of Windows 10 (and releasing a new browser called Spartan), and what that means for you is that IE will not be supported here after that takes place.
What does that mean?
When new features of the site are released, we will not spend time making them work in IE because it will be an unsupported browser.
If you have problems that do not show up in other browsers, like Safari, Firefox or Chrome, we will not be able to troubleshoot or fix those and will ask you to try in a modern, functional browser.
We urge you to make the switch now so that you can be comfortable with another browser before IE fades into internet history.
I hadn't heard this! So glad I listened and downloaded Chrome a few months back. I will have to pass the info on to my demo friend. She's not real computer savvy, so I'm sure she hasn't heard yet either. Thanks for the info.
Thank you so much for the information. I have a mac and rarely use IE.
This makes total sense though. At work, we've had to start using chrome since the end of Last year. I had to go through all of my saved favorites at work and create chrome bookmarks. Totally makes sense.
Fear of change was my biggest problem. If people know how easy it is to download (Chrome in my case), they would do it. I viewed a few YouTube tutorials on downloading it and moving my bookmarks ( favorites) and it was easy. Love YouTube for all the help I get there.
Yes, it's truly easy, especially with Youtube tutorials. After I answered on this thread last night I realized that I should bring it to my sister and brother n law's attention. Sis has been using firefox for quite some time, but my brother n law is still on explorer. She said she would sit down with him and explain what's going on. He's not very techy and isn't going to like the change,..... lol

Groan!!! Before my computer crash about two months ago, I had Chrome and was perfectly happy with it. I now have a laptop that my son was not using (never used, in fact) and we downloaded Chrome. Unfortunately, some pop-up virus got installed during the download process -- and my son (who is a computer programmer, BTW) could not get it totally removed. We had to install a pop-up blocker. I use IE for everything except when I'm posting on my blog (which has not supported IE for a while). My [rhetorical] question is: why do they keep changing things???

Did you directly download it from Google or did you follow a link to find it? I went directly to Google and downloaded and had no issues. Strange that a pop up virus downloaded with it. Are you sure the pop up virus didn't get in some other way? I'm guessing your son already checked that since he knows way more about computers than I do.
I always use CNET as a safe source for downloads! There are some really sneaky Trojans out there, I'm sorry you got stuck with one, Lois. DH got something on the laptop one time and the only way we could get rid of it was to format the drive and reinstall everything from scratch.

Hello Lydia - I did it, I really really did it .... I switched to Firefox after doing some research about what is out there. I will never be afraid of change again! It did everything for me, including transferring all my bookmarks etc. To boot, this poor laptop is faster!! I have a new laptop on the way, but Canada Post has "lost" it ... and it will take time to investigate, so I will be on this one for awhile longer. Thanks for the heads up Lydia.
Oh, just aside, watched your video this morning and had a good giggle with the paint mess - been there, done that!

YAYAYAY!!! I'm so excited for you! You will love it! Many things on the web that probably frustrated you before will be solved.
Download Chrome too just for grins. (pushing you, I know!)

Safari is fine. We had a maintenance last night and so you may need to clear your cache to fix that issue.
