Hello... I am contemplating buying some BG stamps from Cornish Heritage Farms. I am envious of all those who have made the leap as it is such an incredible deal if you live in the states. But, is it an incredible dedal for Canadians? Have any fellow Canadians purchased stamps from this company? Is it worth while with the exchange rate, duties and shipping costs? Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I've been wondering the same thing. A friend and I are thinking about putting in an order, but the customs fees scare me. Hopefully someone has been brave enough to order.
Well I've done it. I researched this to death and know that I will have to pay 10.00 S/H, 15%tax, at least 5.00 in brokerage fees, and dgod only knows how much in duties. But, alas a way around all this. I have a friend in NH who will accept the parcel and ship it to me as a gift under 60.00 which is allowed under the vague customs rules. Therefor, no taxes, no duties, and no shipping cost on my order which I just placed. 4 BG stamps unmounted(paisley,canvas,weatheredwood,victorian floral) and mounted oak leaves, and mounted church in the pines.
OK, I bit the bullet and ordered the paisley BG stamp from that company. It was fast shipping and the stamp is beautiful!! The stamp was $14.99 and the shipping was $9.99. I didn't have to pay customs or anything. The exchange will be on the Visa bill. I looked at it this way. The SU BG stamps are 24.99 plus tax and shipping. It works out to be about the same price. ( maybe a wee bit higher from the States) I'm really HAPPY with the paisley BG stamp.
I think if it's under a certain dollar value you don't have to pay customs. I think I'll go ahead and order. If I get everything I want the first time then I don't have to worry about it again right? lol
Hey - I am interested in getting that paisley b/g from them myself, but couldn't find a website -- if someone can help me figure out how to order, I'll be happy to order for you, too, and ship it to Canada. . .
Unless they have changed the $$ value recently Customs will not look at any commercial goods or gifts coming in with a stated dollar value of under $20. Anything over that amount they CAN but not necessarily WILL open the package, assess duty on the amount and then charge you a handling fee of at least $5.00 along with the duty. Under Nafta if the stamps are manufactured in the United States there should be little or no duty charged but you never know...
...these charges will be collected by whatever method is bringing the parcel to you - canada post or courier and you don't get your parcel until you pay up.
so go ahead and order your stamp if you want to, one BG stamp should come thru no problem - the shipping fee isn't included in the valuation btw.
They are beautiful and stamp so well, I LOVE the paisley . . . . if you have any questions at all, email the people on the site, I had a few questions and they were very kind and helpful.

I had no idea there were so many rules and regulations for buying just over the line. I guess that's why it makes a difference that SU sells in Canada. JMCDA definitely sounds like she knows what she's talking about.
Does this apply if you spend a vacation in the USA as well? What about the reverse? We took a family vacation in Canada once, and I'm sure we bought t-shirts or something while we were there. I know you have to fill out forms, and say if you have anything to declare, but I thought that had more to do with liquor, etc.
The whole customes duty thing here in Canada just seem to be completely random. Some times your packages will get charged the duty, sometimes they don't. If customs does open your package you will be charged $5.00 no matter what as a base amount, it goes up from there depending on the value of your item. It really isn't as much as everyone seems to think though.
I just ordered 15 of the lunch box tins from Creative Express in the US the tax on it was only $10.55 when it arrived. With the deal I got on the tins I still ended up getting them for $4.00 less per tin than they would have cost if I purchased them at Micheals.
