WT517 ~ From the Kitchen with Love ~ {02/05/2015}

It's Sabrina here as your hostess for the first WTUI challenge in February!
Some people think that "Cook" in my username is my surname - actually, it's because I used to work as a cook (I still do - I just don't get paid now ;-)).


So this week we are making cards which use something from the kitchen.
And there are LOADS of possibilities for cooking up some fun on your cards.


To start with, there's the Salted Background technique - and as an extension of that, Lydia has this suggestion of using rice, and while I failed with my couscous, I have it on reliable information that it will work too:MIX81 Rice, Rice, Baby

Plenty of possibilities to use whole spices in shaker cards or just as an embellishment. Last year I sent someone a card with a little sprig of thyme in the corner, and she said it was probably the first time she'd picked up a card to sniff on taking it out of the envelope. And I've used large dried chilli peppers to make great trees :mrgreen:.
And that reminds me - I've never tried this, but it surely counts as using kitchen supplies:

Or you could use aluminum foil - it looks great stuck to card and embossed. It looks fab just plain - or you can colour it up with alcohol inks or acrylic paints.

Anne (jdmommy) had a no-iron take on Beate's tutorial: you can find Anne's description here, and it's what I used since you can barely see the effect of my salt and couscous:TLC488 No-Iron Resist
(please note - if you use waxed paper I would really like you to do MORE than just use it to help release die-cuts, great for that as it is ;-).

Sabrina- what a wonderful challenge! Best greens I had were cilantro for my bunny, so that's what I used at the base of my card. Paper pieced my flowers on top of the green stamped leaves of my flowers, and used a vintage postcard for my base. Background is my Trick or Treat quilt which I showed the ladies at our monthly quilting tea Here's Vintage Flowers
