Challenge Title: Spread It Around
Hostess: bejoyce aka Barbara
Keyword: HYCCT1419
Date: Sunday, October 19, 2014
Welcome to the 5th annual Hope You Can Cling To challenge and card drive -- we are sooooo thrilled that you are here!! Thank you so much for supporting this amazing event.
I've been fortunate with the outcomes of most of my mammograms, but I've had several scares, including one time when I needed an ultrasound because of a suspicious place on a mammogram. You might know that when you have an ultrasound, the first thing the technician does is to spread a jelly-like substance on your skin.
So my challenge to you is to use Embossing Paste and spread it around on your card. You might want to use a stencil, you might sprinkle your embossing paste with embossing powder and then heat, you might color your embossing paste with reinker, you might use it on a card where frosting is shown on a cake (use a toothpick to spread it around). Bonus points if your embossing paste is pink!
Thanks to Gail (mammasix) for suggesting that I add a recipe for a substitute for embossing paste, and to Susie (susie australia) for the recipe:
Here is the recipe Susie has used for embossing paste. She used kids washable school glue and baby powder. Consistency of toothpaste. You can use white or coloured paint. She has hers in a sealed container made over one month ago.
RECIPE for texture paste. 1 part white acrylic paint, 1 part talcum powder, 1/2 part liquid glue.
This challenge is also meant to encourage you to "spread it around" to all your friends, about the importance of getting regular mammograms!

Hello Barbara! Great challenge! I love embossing paste and pink embossing paste even better!!! Thanks for giving me the excuse to get out my paste and play!
Fortunately, I have some embossing paste so didn't have to go the extra steps to make it....but thanks for the recipes, Barbara, they may come in handy in the future. (That paste is expensive IMO...that's why I don't tint mine and scrap the extra back into the jar. : ) ) Fun challenge and I like how you related your thinking and experiences on your path to creating it. Thanks.

I had a blast with this challenge, I luv using embossing paste and reached for it to get my card started. Here is a direct link to my card and more info on my blog. Paperie Blooms: Happy Birthday
I had to compromise a bit on this card cause I don't have embossing paste with me so I had to substitute gesso and a stencil instead. It is always a fun technique to do. I did remember to bring my brayer to roll the colors across the dried gesso. I love pink and brown together and made the tag and envelope from a brown paper bag. Thanks for another fun challenge.
I'm going to have to start using embossing paste more often. I had to throw out some dried up jars because of lack of use. Here's my card for today -- Lots of Love.

OMG I have to thank you soooo much!!!! This was a brand new technique for me and I LOVED it!!!! LOVED it!!!!!! I made my own homemade embossing paste....easy peasy!!!! Have I mentioned i LOVED this challenge???!!!!!
Oh what fun, I have never done emboss paste, I think I will have to try that again. I was only going to do it once on the card but I wanted to keep trying it so I put it on a few times.

I'm made the paste...now I need to figure out what to do with it...
Uhm...I screamed when the acrylic paint squished out of the bottle...shivers...do not like "stuff" on my fingers...and really...don't like messy...
Afraid this is going to be messy...
Suppose I should find a binder for my hair as starters or I might have white hair sooner than planned by God! :p
I have two words for you: Rubber Gloves! (the disposable kind)
You've done the hard part, now just play and have fun! If you have a stencil, you can use that. If you don't, do you have a die that you could use as a stencil? If not, you can just spread it on a piece of cardstock, using an old credit card as a spreader. After it's dry, you can stamp on it, or color it with a brush and reinkers. Look at the gallery for inspiration!
Most of all, have fun! It's great that you have all but one of the challenges done! This one will push you over the finish line! Yay, you!

Washed my hands...washed the die...washed the paint brushes and washed the measure spoons and cup! GAG...
I am going to revisit this one...with a clear mind on another day...
I am overthinking it I'm sure...I made stencils from the die...but..now I'm laughing at myself because I used colored cardstock and that is backwards...
It will be fun!
