Default Scorepal, or SU scoreboard or WR Memory keepers???

I need some advice about a score board - I got the Martha Stewart cutter because the guy told me that it scores and cuts, but it drives me crazy because it is divided into squares and I don't feel as if the line I am trying to score is smooth, because I feel it everytime there is a square line. what have you used and what would you recommend - I just want a dedicated scoring board as I already have the paper cutter which is ok.

Thanks

Sabine

I have both the score pal (the large one) and the SU score board and I have to say I like the score pal best.

I own both sizes of the Martha Stewart scoreboards. I really like the small one, it is tucked away on my desktop and works perfect for cards. The larger one is perfect for larger scoring.

I would love to own the diagonal plate from SU because it fits the MS scoreboard, but I don't make envelopes or do enough diagonal scoring to justify the investment. I use my MS scoreboard and the included extra triangle for the same thing right now. I like it because it tucks away on the end/back of the scoreboard.

Also, both the MS scoreboards have 1/8" scoring and the Scor-Pal I started with did not. I don't know about the new style of the Scor-Pal.

I didn't care for the SU scoreboard because it is dark in color. I've never had an issue with the color of my MS scoreboards.

I have scored pal and ms. While the scor pal is of better quality, I use the ms more because of the 1/8" increments. Lately though I've been using my su trimmer because you can score and cut.

Martha Stewart scoreboard..large and small! Love them both mainly because they are in 1/8th inch increments. My first tool I had was the 'Scor-it'..way before all the other boards were around. Then I won a Scor-pal and liked it but not as much as dear old Martha!! LOL

I'm the opposite of Judi - I have the scor pal and the SU! scoreboard and I much prefer the SU! one.

If you're primarily making cards, I've been really happy with the Martha Stewart mini score board. I have the large one, too, but like the little one a lot more, and if you use a coupon, it's only like $6, so you're not out a ton if you really hate it.

I have both the Scor Pal and the SU! scoreboard and I never even pull out the Scor Pal anymore. I guess I should try to sell it. It doesn't have the 1/8" score lines, which I really love in the SU! board.

I have the MS large board. I used a coupon at my local art store to get it. Like the others said, I like the 1/8th increments.

I have hated some of her other stuff but this works fine for me because although I only make cards and not scrapbook, I use a lot of 12" DP.

I have not tried any other so I have no idea. Sorry I am not more help.

I have the MS large board, the Scor-Pal small and large board, and the SU board and diagonal plate.

I make cards and use the small Scor-Pal the most. I also like the large MS and Scor-Pal, but am disappointed in the Stampin Up. I have trouble with the tool staying in the scoring line. I bought this especially to make a card I saw on U-Tube...spent about $40 and can't get it to work because the tool keeps sliding out of the groove and makes a crooked score. I bought the MS to make envelopes, but have now switched to the We-R-Memories envelope punch board for envelopes. Good luck in choosing the one that works best for you.

It sounds like the SU! board is defective. You could call Stampin' Up! support and they might replace it for you. 800-STAMPUP. It's worth a phone call.

Have you tried using the tool from either your Martha board or your Scor-Pal instead of the stylus the SU board comes with? I know that I really dislike the tool that comes with the Martha board, so I'll use the Scor-Pal tool or an embossing stylus or my bone folder instead. I know that I like the score I get with the stylus, but it does seem harder to keep in the groove than the others. Also, I'd love to see a link to the card you were trying to make

I've had the Scor-Pal, MS, and SU scoreboards including the diagonal plate and SU wins hands down. Scor-Pal did not have the 1/8" measurements then, and MS slots for scoring were to thin, scoring tool was cheap like a plastic knife. Sold them both and love the SU board for its markers on the scoring measurements. When you do repetitive scoring or have classes (like I do), this makes things way easier. I painted some of the markers with bright fingernail polish to indicate different scores on another side, so easy for them to see this. Diagonal board can take a full 12"x12' paper for big projects.

I only have the Score Buddy as I do mostly cards. It does have the 1/8" marks and works perfectly. On the rare occasions I need something longer, I use the scorer on my Fiscars paper trimmer.

What she said. I have the 2nd generation Score Pal and use it all the time. The reason I like the SU board less is that it's so dark, it's harder to see where you're working.

I have both sizes from Martha Stewart and the We R Memories one and I love love love the Martha Stewart ones. Not so happy with We R Memorykeepers mainly because it is part of the trimmer and the markings through me off. I'm not crazy about the trimmer so I really never use this one for scoring anymore. Martha Stewart ones can be obtained with those 40% off coupons too making it another PLUS!!!!!

I have a score pal and the MS large score board. My preference is MS because of the 1/8 increments. It also filt the SU diagonal score pad. I use a dry embossing stylus to score rather than the tool that came with MS board because I heard that the one that comes with MS wears out quick. Guess I should sell the score Pal too as I haven't used it since I got Marthas!

I started out with the large MS board. I didn't like the scorer that came with it so I used one from my Cricut supplies that is metal on the top part (the tip). Someone gave me a newer Score Pal with the ⅛" increments and I really like it a lot. The is my go to because it is small. I use the MS when I need to score something larger. IMHO I think both are great!

Like Sue (Mrs Noofy) I had a "Score- It" from way back in the day. I hated it because the little grove in the wooden score tool always slipped and you' have this crooked mark. URGH!!!!!!!! I now have the SU score pad and love, love, love it. I don't mind the dark color either.

My 2 cents - I like the scoring tool that comes with Stampin' Up's score board the best - Martha Stewarts' the least. I have all three large ones and now from reading this thread will search for the smaller Scor Pal with the 1/8th increments.

Another thing that people haven't addressed is that the Scorpal has raised edges on 3 sides and I believe the MS has them on 2 sides. If you do anything on an angle for an effect that 3rd side gets in the way. ScorBuddy has two sides but I work on larger cards and projects.

I have "We R Memory Keepers" Score and Cut Board. The board is awesome and has all the measurements you would need and plus I also have the Envelope Punch Board, the punch board measurements are the same measurements that are on the We R Memory Keepers Score and Cut Board... I love and how they both go hand and hand and and the cut part all on the same board. Love it! Here goes a video on Yt...

biene- I know on the other thread you mentioned your not in the US. Can you get a hold of UK products easily? I am not in the UK but I hear a lot about it. I wanted to throw that one out for you as an International option.

I love my Martha Stewart board. I like the 1/8 inch increments. I had the Scor-Pal but I am dyslexic so that board was a nightmare for me, personally. It was a very nice board. I thought it was constructed better than the Martha Stewart.

I had the MS and bought the SU and I don't see any difference. They both worked the same for me. I like having the 1/8" lines and the only time I score outside the lines is if I go to fast. I definitely do not like the MS scoring tool as it's sharp on the edges. I always used my stylus and the SU version comes with a stylus.

Hands down I love the ability to place the little markers on the score lines with the SU board. I can set it up and know that I have my measurements correct for making multiples of the same card.

A friend gave me her Scor-Pal and the markings were distracting which is why she gave it to me. It went to good will.

I have both the large and small MS scoreboards...totally wonderful. I usually keep my large board tucked away and bring it out for bigger jobs while the small one stays at my desk full time.
But I just recently purchased SU's Simply Scored Borders plate which fits neatly on the large MS scoreboard. Now the bigger board stays out on my cutting work station so I can add an edge to my card without having to use an embossing folder!

I have the 2nd gen score-pal, the SU board and the mini Martha Board. I love the mini for card making - easy to find room for it. I like the 1/8 increments on SU, but originally had trouble keeping the stylus in the groove. It takes a bit of practice, but you will get there.

One tip is to wipe down the CS you are scoring with a piece of wax paper - it smooths the surface for easier scoring. I keep a crumpled piece handy for this purpose. That fixed my problem with SU board, until I got the hang of it. I do really like the Score Pal, but wish it had the 1/8 increments all the way across.

I can't compare them as I only have the SU one, but I do love it! The only thing I don't like about it is the storage compartment is quite flimsy, but I don't need to use it so it doesn't bother me. Otherwise, I love the place markers, the 1/8th grooves and the stylus.

Hope that helps

I had the Scor Pal and bought the SU! One when it came out because of a few feautures. It has 1/8" score lines as others have mentioned. This was a huge frustration for me with the Scor Pal and the biggest reason I recommend the SU! Simply Scored Scoring Tool over the Scor Pal or any other scoring board that doesn't have 1/8" lines. If you're always going to make standard sized cards with typical folds, I'm sure the Scor Pal is fine, but if you want to make other cards with other folds, boxes, and more, the 1/8" markings give you more bang for your buck.

I don't mind that the SU! SSST has a darker color. I did however want something to differentiate the channels from the ones next to it. So I ran a dark fine tip Sharpie marker (mine was purple) in every 4th channel. Makes it easier in the rare cases where you have to score from the other edge and stop or if you're lining up to score diagonals or whatever. I've had this board since SU! released it and have never had to remark it.

The only thing I don't like is actually one of the features I initially liked. The compartment at the top has a door that opens much too easily. I've used washi tape to secure mine so it isn't always flapping open as I rarely use the place markers (another feature I love) since I'm typically just making one of something.

I have Martha's big scoreboard. I love I got it for around $12.00 with a Mike's coupon. I use a stylus to score or my SU bone folder, as it's heavier than the one that comes with it.

I use a stylus too or the bone folder you can buy separately for my scoring. I agree the one that comes with the score board isn't very good.

Since a few years have gone by, I would love to resurrect this thread to get some updated opinions. I use my score buddy all the time for cards, but am now making things where I need to score larger pieces of paper up to 12". I have the old score pal that does not have all the 1/8" markings, so am looking to buy a new one, and trying to decide between the new Scorepal with all the markings, or the SU score board. I like the markers that come with the SU board, but am not sure about the stylus or if the darker color will be an issue...Would love to hear opinions

I used my Score Buddy for many years, as well, and needed to go larger, like you. I decided on the SU one, but usually use a bone folder rather than the stylus, as I always burnish after scoring anyway. I'm interested to hear what others say about the dark color. It doesn't bother me at all, but the biggest problem is that if I am doing something on the diagonal or from a mark to a mark, I can't tell where the line near the top connects with the line below when the cardstock is covering it. KWIM? Anyway, I took a white gel pen and drew a line in a groove from top to bottom and use that line to match up specialty lines. BTW, I never use the markers. My eyes are drawn to the ruler lines and the markers seem to obstruct my line of vision. If I could change anything, I would have preferred if it had come with a few lines printed to the bottom to use as a guide, and maybe a ruler printed across the bottom. However, I really enjoy using it.
