How concerned are you with nonacid-free items in scrapbooks?

Hi all,

I am curious to know if many of you are concerned about the use of nonacid-free, nonlinen-free items on scrapbook pages. For instance, sequins, dew drops, and many other embellishments that are not necessarily made for scrapbooking (even ribbon, twine, etc. I presume). Are you ok with it as long as it is not touching the photo or really don't worry about it either way? What is the implication in damage and how long does it take to degrade, etc.?

I have never been terribly concerned about it. Scrapbooks were made, and survived, for much longer than companies have been marketing acid-free, lignin-free items.

And these days, you probably have the photos on multiple forms of media, as opposed to using a single, unique, irreplacable print.

I'm thinking by the time the non-acid free stuff starts to deteriorate or affect the photos, no one will have that much interest in them anyway.

I just took apart a scrapbook type of album from about 55 years ago when I was in my early teens, the paper was falling apart and the scotch tape I put them in with was brittle and so was some of the other additions but photos were fine.

Not terribly concerned here, either. Acid free papers also marked "buffered" are supposed to stop the migration of acids from materials on the page to the photos so that is an extra safety measure for those who are very concerned about it. If I use mementos like ticket stubs or travel brochures, I make little page protectors or envelopes to stick on the page and keep them off the photos completely.
