Question Organizing stamps

How do you organize your stamps? When I want to find a stamp, I have to pull out each box and look. I'm thinking of mounting narrow shelves and lining the stamps up. Anyone does this?

I think there's a lot of folks who do this with their stamps.
Here's one example...
Crop, Adhere, Embellish!: My Scrapbook Room

Most amazing to me is Tim Holtz...
the studio - day 2... - Tim Holtz

As for me...I would need more space than I have walls to store all my stamps on shelves so I could see them all. Plus, DH would know how many stamps I really have...lol!

But if you don't have thousands of stamps, it would be fun to do it this way!

For wood mounts, that exactly what my hubby built for me. Very soon started to outgrow this though.

Trouble was, I then got into unmounteds, lol. They are in 4 ring binders now. I also ended up unmounting nearly all my wood mounts, to cut down the storage space needed. Just kept any really large ones on wood.

I have mine in Decorative boxes according to stamp manufacture or theme. For example Bella's, Art Impression, Stamping-up, Tilda etc.... For the ones that I have tons of like House Mouse, I have several boxes and I have stamped the stamps on cardstock and mounted it to the inside of the lid, so I can glance and see where the stamp is that I need. I keep them all in a tall cabinet with double doors on it.

Mine are all un-mounted and stored by category in CD cases.

When you store your stamps in cd cases, do the cases leave a 1/2 inch strip open? What I mean is that I ordered cd cases without the cd insert. When they are closed, there is a 1/2" strip near the spine that isn't covered by any part of the case. If your cases aren't like this, could you tell me where you got them?

Yes mine are like that. I just put my label there so nothing falls out. I just use cheap card stock as labels.

I hung Ikea's narrow book shelves. They're about $14 each and you can fit two rows of stamps on each shelf.

One thing to add, if you are putting up shelves to store stamps on, make sure the wall is not facing a window, and the stamps are lined up with the rubber facing away from any sunlight.

My SU wood mounts are still in the clamshells! I have my stamps in a large amour.

Flowers first shelf...all sets only stacked two/ four sets high. Also on the first shelf are Christmas

Second shelf-winter, valentines day, baby, sentiments

Third shelf-birthday, thank you, my coffee/tea stamps, encouragement

Third shelf - general images

This is about 150 sets

My clear mount sets are mixed in among these also.

I know this wouldn't work for everyone, but I love it! I generally know where everything is.

Oh, upper most shelf is my card stock.

The only sets I have broken up are wood mount all occasion - thank you, birthday, wedding. My clear mount will never come from broken homes!

I'm about 90% SU.

Ahh stamp storage - it's a tough one. It depends on what would work for you - what would you keep up with. For me I knew if I got too intricate I would never put anything away so I had to go semi-organized. A long time ago I unmounted anything that was on wood (I never mounted any of my SU sets) to cut down on storage space. Then I got a bunch of those 3 drawer plastic drawer sets at Target and have things loosely organized by category. I can easily pull the whole drawer out to dig through and when I am cleaning up I can just throw them back into the drawer they go in.

I am in the process of organizing my space right now I have decided that I am keeping seasonal stamps in their own space. I have Christmas in one space, Halloween in another and then every day stamps are on 2 stacked CD racks that sit to the side of my table. I think it will really help as occasions roll around because it never fails, middle of summer, OOOHHH look at this Halloween stamp! I will have to use this when I make neighbor treats!! ==as it goes back into the CD holder not to be seen until next spring== My wood mount sets are in a big square basket underneath my table as I don't use them as much but like to have them close by just in case.

My clear stamps are organized like this:

My wood-mounted stamps are in the Thicker-sized Stuftainers, and they sit on the shelves like books. I label the sides with the names of the sets and organize them by theme and style.

Default Organizing stamps

I have over a 1000 SU - to many I know but just can't part with any.
I have put the titles and box # on Excel spreadsheet but now I don't know what the stamp image is. In the beginning I started copying the image and putting them in 3 ring binder got to big and bulk-y. When I pull a set out of storage
I struggle getting it back after using it. How can I know what images are in my sets?

How about EverNote? I've shared my Current and Retired Stampin Up stamp sets on this thread (along with my other notebooks!)
Evernote Supply List Sharing thread...
my notebooks (for Current and Retired SU stamp sets) are on post 267 & 268. I don't have 1000...but at least it'll be some that you won't have to create from scratch! ;)

One of my most used features in Evernote is the search feature....it's soo nice to be able to search birthday and everything that I have tagged with birthday shows up!! The initial set up (tagging and entering) was time-consuming, but well worth it!! Now I just add the stamp sets as I get them....(of course, I still have MANY more sets to add....took a little break when I bought my embroidery machine! Now I'm trying to organize my embroidery files in Evernote! I'm adding a picture of each file and adding tags...this is ADDICTING!!!)

Also, I keep my stamps separated (Current and Retired), and then I have them alphabetically. Makes finding them EASY PEASY....all I have to know is if it's current or retired and the stamp set name!

my sister painted and reorganized my stamp room, (so lucky!) She organized my stamps by category on each shelf, holidays; kids; masculine; floral etc., works great for me. I look at the spine of the CD case or name of the set. I hate breaking up my sets, my stamps are mainly SU and most of them are in CD cases or the newer SU boxes, very few clamshells left. Now the trick is too keep it tidy

My Wood Mount stamps are in Iris Scrapbook cases and separated by theme, holiday etc. My clear stamps and unmounted ones are in page protectors in big binders.
