Ready for a new Mix-Ability challenge?!! We hope you're having fun with these! Our goal is to make mixed media easy, approachable and FUN! We want to convince you that no matter what your style is - you can DO it!
This week's challenge is to make a project using a single color. You can use shades, tones, and hues of the color.
WHY!?! Mom! That's not fair!
I want you to push yourself to learn all you can about color gradations. So if you choose purple acrylic paint, for example, you could add black to make a deeper shade, or white to make a lighter tint, and grey to make a middle tone. You probably have an array of cardstock and patterned papers to choose from - so you can pick a range of purple papers to employ.
PICK YOUR OWN COLOR
(you don't have to use purple!)
Consider other ways to manipulate a color - adding brown, overlaying with velum, using an iridescent sheen or interference color. The goal of this challenge is to learn to lean on color without relying on white and black for your layers, mats, borders, etc.
You can use visible white and black, but it must be ONLY WHEN ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY, like for your sentiment, or the base panel of a colored piece. Of course you can use white and black to mix into your color to create your tint, tone, and shade. Watercolor products will be a little different - they rely on water to create the tint.
As always - please use 3 or more (I love more) media in your piece. You can click HERE for a list of supplies you could choose from.
Remember to use the keyword MIX61 when uploading your creations to the gallery, come back and post a link, and let us "ooooooh" and "ahhhhhh" over your works of art! Anything you choose to make is suitable - card, journal page, 3D items, canvas. Just play!
Here are some samples to inspire you!

Oh my gosh, Ky--these samples are fabulous! Just the inspiration I needed for a great jumping off point! I am looking forward to this very interesting challenge--can't wait to try! Hmm, what color do I want......
Yikes - this is going to be a tough one for me. I find monochrome difficult. I'll be thinking about this at work this morning - but it may be tomorrow before I get along with something. Thanks, Ky - challenging is good ;-).
MIX61 So Lovely in Blue
Stamping time isn't something I have enough of these days, so I worked the challenges on this one.
Actually, I started out by embossing and painting a piece of card ready to do acrylic distress, but my only blue acrylic really does not go well with all my blue inks. I'm sure I'll use it up for something else.
Here's my tag - using shades of green, stamps, a stencil, twine, canvas, sequins and an Art Part! I combined it with the Free4All challenge - to use a circle background.
Wow! I'm blown away by your creativity! Keep them coming!
Meanwhile - you can ask any questions you might have about mixed media, cards, technical needs, talk about your favorite movie, rotten weather, anything at all! Feel free to hang out and chat!
