They really need to address this, especially with their new alcohol markers coming out. I can't see how those will work very well on their current weights of Whisper White and Very Vanilla. Their other neutrals and the watercolor paper are not white enough or smooth enough for all purposes. I just use other brands for a heavier white and off white cs.
Lynn...I got the impression from the way you worded your post that you might not have tried the whisper white. It is white white, has a nice finish to it, and is available on a different page of the catalog from the shimmery white.
However, I agree that a heavier white paper is in order for card bases. With the alcohol markers coming out they may need to get on the bandwagon with that.
After multitudes of years with SU, I think it has clicked with me as to why they have never had a heavier white in the past. Have you ever looked at old catalogs? EVERY sample they have is with a colored card base and the white is only used for a layer with images on it. I think that has been the paradigm for them for so long that they don't think white for card bases. And if they don't get up to date on that one, they will lose a lot of their market share. Already are in my opinion.
If you have a Michael's nearby, they now have heavy white card stock. I love it! It is Recollections brand, comes in a large package and costs around $15 (although you can use your 40% off coupon).

Even when I was a demo I bought my white for bases at SAM's, but it just doesn't look or feel the same. I love the smoothness of Whisper White!
I love the smoothness of whisper white too, Gail. But I have to say I can't use it for card bases. So I get the Neenah Classic Crest Solar White in the heavy weight. And since the whiteness is slightly different from whisper white, I use the Neenah in the lighter weight for layers.
If I use a colored card base, then the whisper white is the paper of choice.
Now, if SU would only make something heavy like the Neenah 110 pound...in a finish like the Whisper white...that would be the cats pjs for sure!
I have tested my Blendabilities as soon as I got them and I have found NO bleeding through with Whisper White or Shimmery White.
Both of the Naturals cardstock suffer from bleeding through with the lightest touches of the marker and the smallest amount of ink.
It may be due to the fact that the Whisper White and Shimmery White are coated and the naturals are not that they take the ink so much better, but I do not know for sure.
Since I prefer a colored card base, I have never thought about making a base from WW.

The new markers were formulated to work with WW and they work very well with it in my experience. They have said in many trainings and videos that if you're doing it right, it will bleed through the back a little. Mine has never bled so bad it gets on my grid paper but you can see that it's saturated when you turn it over.
I agree that SU needs to come up with a heavier weight paper......I love the feel of WW and VV, but I only use them as bases on "less special" cards if that makes sense. I recently discovered The Paper Studio heavyweight cardstock at HL....50 for 8.99 which is a lot cheaper than the Bazzill Card Shoppe I was using. It's very white and works well for me.

Sorry to say, but they do bleed through the card stock. So much that if you wanted to make a no layer card and just color the image straight on the card base, it bleed through for me.
If you want to color the image with enough "color" for a vibrant "look" blendabilities DO bleed through whisper white card stock.

I strike when they go on sale and at times buy them out.
I use it for my Chameleon alcohol markers. I've sent my Blendabilities back for a refund.
I am planning on using the credit on Fun Stamping Journey's new catalog, where I can buy their new A2 envelope die! No more fighting with that damn envelope punch board and tore DSP envelopes!! YAY!
I bought the large pack of the Recollections 110 weight last year- I will never use it up! I prefer SU's paper for stamping though, so I'm very interested in their new heavier weight. They need it in Very Vanilla too.
