2014 CALENDAR GIRLS Blog Group - Full with 10 Members
We are the Calendar Girls... and this is our third year of existence. Who are the Calendar Girls? We are a group of bloggers who want to have a place where friendships blossom, creativity abounds, and encouragement prevails! In keeping with that dream, this blog group has been created so we will have a place to interact and enjoy being fellow bloggers.
The guidelines for this group are fairly simple:
1. Each member MUST have a blog (its a blog group, after all) and members need to post to their own blogs at least once or twice a week.
2. Each member needs to become a follower of the blogs of all the members. (It would also be great if members would place links of the blogs a blog list in the sidebar of their own blogs.)
3. Each member needs to visit the blogs of the other members at least once or twice a week and barring unforeseen circumstances, members should leave a comment on the blogs at least every week. (Encouragement is such a wonderful thing!)
4. I will open/host an SCS thread for the blog group (here it is!). It is a place where the members can post links to resources, challenges the others might like to participate in, information about publication calls or DT calls, blog candy, and such, etc. I foresee the SCS thread as a place of friendship!
5. Each month the Blog Group would have a challenge among themselves. One member each month would be the hostess of the challenge. That simply means she is the one who chooses the Challenge theme. It could be a seasonal theme (Autumn), a holiday theme (Christmas), a color theme (purple and white), a technique theme (embossing), a theme using a particular type of embellishment (glitter), an inspiration theme (a photo that inspires the creation), a special theme (anything but a card), etc. Each member would choose her own products and way of interpreting the theme. These creations would be posted to the blogs of the members on a pre-determined day.
6. Other ideas could be generated among the group for ways to strengthen the blog group and these might be added to the guidelines at a later time.

If youve ever been any of the swap threads that I participate in, you know that I like holidays, normal ones, weird one, funny ones. EVERY day is worth a celebration. ;) So, for this months Calendar Girl challenge, I want you to select a holiday that is CLOSE TO your own birthday and make a card for that holiday. If you need help finding holidays, check out this wonderful site. .
For instance, Barbs birthday is in October, right? So she could choose to make a Halloween card, since Halloween is close to her birthday. Or she could choose a lesser known (dare we say quirky) holiday such as National Family Bowling Day (the 11th), National Grouch Day (the 15th) or Dictionary Day (the 16th). Now please dont feel like you HAVE to make a card that is for that holiday just one that is inspired by that holiday. For instance, Barbs Grouch Day could be a Cheer Up/I Care sort of card or an Im sorry! I really messed up sort of card. Or the Dictionary Day card could include a flower punched out of the page of an old dictionary.
I hope youll have fun with this challenge. Ill look forward to seeing what you come up with when we post on our blogs on January 28th!
February Hostess: Kelly
February's Challenge is Fancy Schmancy Fabulous Fabric!
Thats right were getting fancy this month with .... Fabric!
I thought wed shake things up a bit and try something we havent done before and create with fabric fabric scraps fabric flowers, panels, and/or the whole card! Think flowers, trees, houses, even holiday ornaments, etc
the choice is yours BUT ....
You cannot stamp your cards this month!
You may use a sentiment as a compliment to your card but the fabric (or fabric element) must be the focal point of your card.
You can do this, ladies! No sewing required! Glue, glue dots, Aileens, etc ...
show us your fancy, your schmancy, your fabulous fabric cards!
Let's do this!
March Hostess: Tami
March Challenge
Oh girls, we are going to create a card this month! I thought of a few things that might keep us busy for March.
Did you know that March used to be the first month of the year on the Roman calendar? It was changed to the third month by Julius Caesar. The calendar we use today is refined from the Julius to the Gregorian. Sadly, we only gained like the wee bit of a percentage of more time to craft with the change! In theme of the original first month, let's use one button on your card.
Let's make a card based on a sketch. I saw this sketch and wanted to use it at some point. It's time! Please note, the sketch challenge is still open, so be sure to join!
Speaking of Romans, purple is the color of the day. Please use the color purple on your card somewhere. Purple was worn by Roman Emperors and magistrates. It is also the color worn by those cute little ladies you see out lunching together, wearing purple and red and a bunch of hats!
Since history was after lunch for me in high school, I really had to put my 'dig deep to remember' thinking cap on for this one! Here are the CliffsNotes: one button, use the sketch and purple somewhere on your card.
Hope you have fun! I cannot wait to see what you create!
For you challenge this month I thought quite a bit about the challenge. As you know, we will be posting after Easter so with that in mind I thought I'd do a Mothers Day challenge. When I was a child my mom would encourage my dad to get little carnation corsages in pink or red for each of us girls and mom to wear to church on Mothers Day. According to her (and the intranet), if a woman's mother was alive the females in the family would don a red or pink flower (mostly carnations, but not a rule) and if her mom had passed, the female would wear a white flower, and would visit the grave of her mom and place a white carnation on her grave. My mom's dad would do this when she was a child and mom loved the tradition. What I would like you to do this month is create a card or project using the color that would describe your mom. As an extra I would like for you to share a special memory of your mom from when you were little (if you are comfortable with that) so we can learn a bit about the wonderful ladies who raised such beautiful paper crafters...
May Hostess: April
Well, it is May and I always like to honor my father this month.
So, to celebrate him (and fathers every where) let us make a masculine celebratory card with any SCS sketch that ends in 25 (the year he was born).
Please let us know which sketch you used and a memory of a special man in your life!
Since we are the CALENDAR Girls I was thinking we should make cards that reflect the months of the year or days of the week.
I found these sayings about a few of the months:
Slow as Molasses in January
January Brings a New Year
Beware the Ides of March (William Shakespeare "Julius Caesar")
March, In Like a Lion Out Like a Lamb
April Showers Bring May Flowers
June is Bustin' Out All Over (Oscar Hammerstein)
July Fireflies Bring August Skies
September Leaves Gives Chance for October Scares
And here are some yearly days of the week.:
Fat Tuesday
Black Friday
Good Friday
Palm Sunday
So the challenge is to make a card that reflects your interpretation of one of the above sayings about the months or one of the four listed days. (Maybe you know another saying about months of the year you like. You can use that saying.)
In your blog post let us know what saying or day your card reflects.
Butterflies. Anything with a butterfly. Any theme. They are so beautiful for every occasion and they mean so much to me.
Thanks
August Hostess: Paola
~ Hello Calendar Girls ♥
for the month of August, I would like to challenge everyone to embrace the PUNCH ART tecnique...yup, dust off your punches Ladies!
PLease feel free to use a stamped sentiment of your choice , but the main focus is being creative, using punches .
This month we are going to do a color challenge. Since this card will be posted a few days before Halloween, I challenge you to make a card using just two colors--Black and One Other Color. I also challenge you to try to not use white or ivory as a base for your image. If you do, it does not need to count as your second color--or it can...... Your card does not need to be a Halloween card--it can be for any occasion. Get your thinking caps on and limit your colors to just two!
A bit of clarification............. I had a question already about the limit of two colors. Does that mean just the image, or does it include card base, paper, embellishments, etc.?
Yes--it means everything on your card can only be one of two colors--Black and something else. Your image can be stamped or printed on white or ivory if you want and that base does not count as one of the two colors--unless you wanted to go Black and White only. So all of your cardstock and any designer paper and any/all embellishments need to be one of the two colors you choose. Yes, this is thinking out of the box and I am guessing our markers will not be used this month! That is why it is called a "Challenge"!
November
Barbs Idea
If we need a theme--can I toss this out? How about Shopping? The 28th is Black Friday--we can make a card about anything dealing with shopping--stamps, shoes, presents, dining, crowds, etc. Just a thought if there is nothing planned.
Jeanettes Thoughts
Now, that is NOT to say we are to actually buy anything for our November CG project. Instead, we'll create cards (or whatever) that have a shopping type of theme. Tee Hee! I'm seeing all kinds of possibilities - including cards that would hold gift-cards for gift-giving, images of shopping-bag laden women, gifts under a Christmas tree, etc. This is going to be fun!
December FREE FOR ALL
This month is a FREE FOR ALL. Feel free to post if you want to. Feel free NOT to post if you need a break. If you do post, post whatever you want. How's that for easy???
YAY! Miss February, Miss March, and Miss August are here!
Sweet P, I always like a new thread for the new year, but the downside is... I can't edit the posts now. I got the SCS boss to change the specifications on last year's thread so that I could. hmmmmmm... wonder if I can get her to change it for me again this year.

Kelly, I love your Awesome Sauce saying!
Tami, are you feeling any better? I hope so!
♥ ♥ ♥
Aaawww, thanks for thinking of me! Yes, we are on the road to recovery. Went out of the house today for a quick errand. We arrived at the store and decided we had no business being out and hightailed it home! Baby steps.....
I have a dentist appointment this morning and stamp club this afternoon. I cannot wait as it has been more than a month since I have been stamping at Sarah's. I am hostess this month--YAY! We are going to be holding the orders until the end of the month so we can also order SAB items. Double YAY!!!
Have a wonderful day--and those of you in the east, please be safe. Maybe you can stay home and get inky.
Terry, how's the new job going? Seems I haven't chatted with you in a while.
Hi Jeanette!
My new job is going great! I am coding for the Emergency Department (the doctor part, not all the supplies and medications and stuff). The position is considered a "Coder 2" position....so after my 90 day review I will be bumped up to a Coder 2 and get a raise :-) Yippee for me! I just finished training today, and was suppose to go to my clinic on Monday but there was a bit of a situation there, so I have to wait until a new room is wired for computers and phones. So, I will be traveling to Milwaukee for another few days to work in that office.
How are things going in your next of the woods????
Good Morning--it is a wintery day in Wisconsin, but is the calm before the storm as they say. Temps to be in the low 20's today and then gets colder on Sunday--just in time for the Packer game. Temps to be below zero starting at noon and then -20 or so over night, with winds blowing 25 mph, making for -40 to -50 wind chills. Many schools are already closed for Monday by us. This weather is supposed to stay until Tuesday noon--so we will be hunkering down........................
Good Morning and Happy Freezin' Monday! The temperature right now is -14 and it feels like -41 with the wind chill. I am staying home and tucked in my craft room today........
It was not too bad. I drove to Madison to get the oil changed in my car and the tires rotated. That is where I bought my car last summer and the first service on it was just about free, so that is why I drove there. Also made a stop at Archiver's as everything was 25% off. No time to have lunch with LJ this time........ I am now going to take some pictures of cards I made yesterday to get a few blog posts ready to go.
