Question Retired c/s

As I was cleaning out /decluttering, I found a huge pile of c/s.... Looks like a lot of retired colors. Does anyone even use the retired colors anymore?

I'm gonna go through it all and see what colors are there, and how many sheets of each color.

I do, but then have the marching dsp and ribbon. . I think that helps me use it.

I do, I have very few current colors. I make cards for Operation Write Home and our troops don't care if the color is current or not just that they get to write their loved ones.

It is my hobby, and I do whatever I want. The "retired" stuff is usually cheaper, so I use it a lot.

I pretty much only use the retired colors, because I ran out of storage space (not to mention budget) to keep up with all the in-color changes.

My SIL sent me a box of retired colors when she moved recently and was cleaning out her craft room, some still in original wrapping. So I know what some of the colors are, and the names of the others are a mystery. Yes, I use it. Why not? If you like the color, why wouldn't you use it?

I don't do the matching thing, anyway, I just put colors together that I like. I know SU makes a big thing about how you can coordinate everything, but I have never cared about that.

I only use SU paper for layering at this point in any case. I won't use it for card bases, too thin.

I use it! I have it sitting atop my paper stacks, separate from current colors. I tell my daughters to go for those papers first when they want to make something. Sometimes the retired colors are so close (or close enough) to current colors that I slide them in with the current color it resembles and just use it up that way.

Same here! Can't afford to have every single color and since I'm not a demo I don't need to "keep up". If l really like a new color and have nothing similar, I might get it-Baked Brown Sugar for example, since I ran out of Creamy Caramel a few years back-but if it's close to something I already have, I don't.

Yes! I don't care if someone has designated it "retired" or not - if I like it, I still use it.

Some of my faves are still Bashful Blue, Certainly Celery, Chocolate Chip and the gorgeous Purely Pomegranate

The "retired" colors don't affect what colors I use at all...if I like a color, I like a color. It's sadder to me when I can't replace it. In fact, several of my favorite colors are retired ones.

As a SU demo I stay color current but if I like a retiring color, I'll stock up and I'll use it until it's gone (sniff). Because I'm a demo and want to have sample of all the colors, I have colors I don't like and only use for customer cards. When a color I don't like finally retires I'm a happy camper. I sell off everything related to that color (DSP, cardstock, ink, ribbon, & embellishments).

I use the retired cardstock as it matches the retired DSP. Also, many of the retired colors "coordinate" with new DSP. So, yes, I use all my retired papers.

I don't have any current colors. I stocked up a long time ago cause I had to have it. Then a few years ago I challenged myself to use what I have first. I have made the occasional purchase of patterned paper or embellishments, but I have made what I previously had coordinate with my newer. I have found that I used up and liked Brilliant Blue and Real Red, Black & White a lot. And I do need to get more of those colors I just have to get caught up and use what I have and I still have a lot!

I do use mine. I just made three cards with Cool Caribbean yesterday. I love that color and only have about 10 sheets left. I love Baja Breeze and will be using that till the last sheet. I love Gable Green with Barely Banana or Daffodil Delight for baby cards and that is the only color combo I use for baby cards. I still have a pack of textured G. Green, yummy and I don't even know where that came from????

I do have some Almost Amethyst that I stocked up on and, never use and some other retired blue colors I never use. I got rid of Cranberry Crisp cs/ribbon/ink and Apricot Appeal cs/ink at a rummage sale I had.
So some I do and some I am getting rid of.

As far as in-colors go (as in the 2-year colors) I usually cave in and get one or two.

The first colour switch up I was around for - the one where they got rid of Taken With Teal, Green Galore, Gable Green, etc., I liked half the colours that retired and was thrilled to be rid of the other half. I got rid of the ink pads and got kept/stocked up on some of the paper.

This last time, I got reinkers for the colours I liked, and some cardstock, got rid of what I didn't like.

I do have dsp that goes with the retired colours so it makes sense to use them. And it is true that some of the colours are close enough that you can sub them out. I didn't even get a reinker for Certainly Celery (sold my pad, in fact) because to my eye, Pear Pizzaz is SO close, and I do, in fact, like it better than CC.

Yes, I always loved Certainly Celery and really fell for Pear Pizzazz!. After I thought P.P. would retire I thought about stocking up. I then re-visited C.C. and could not believe how close they were....so I did not stock up on P.P. Then C.C. bit the dust.....Weird chain of back and forth that really did not matter in the long run!

I have so many retired colors...I even have 2 pkgs of the first In-Colors still in plastic so if I ever need to replenish my stash it's there! I use it all, mix SU with other brands, etc. So many fabulous possibilities and it's all in my craft room waving at me, lol!

Not being a demo I am not a slave to all the colour switching that goes on. I have favourites but tend to use whatever I have on hand in that colour.

I get upset when they change the colors. Missing Bashful Blue something terrible! There isn't anything to compare at the hobby stores or local stamp shop. Believe me, I've looked! It think it's a ploy to sell paper. You quick rush and get it. And the new colors sometimes are just a hint different and a new name. But still nothing compared to BB. Sure would like some more. Sigh....

Oh I'm with you Phototaker. I'm suffering terrible withdrawal pains with the loss of Bashful Blue. It was all gone before I could stock up. So I use what I have left very selectively. As for retired cs and dp, you bet I use it. some of those old colors and dp patterns are just gorgeous and I use it right along with the current stuff. I never throw anything out or sell it. Even if I haven't used it in a long time, some challenge will come along where that stamp, or color or dp is just perfect!!

Absolutely!! As a matter of fact, I need to go trolling for some Green Galore and Glorious Green. Those are the best Christmas colors of green and I use it A LOT for my craft fairs and am pretty much out. I tried to stock up a bit when they retired but you can only buy so much of something.

I say use what you like! Many of the "new" colors are very similar to the "old" colors.

Since I'm a demo, I also just use current colors. I have a box of retired colors, because I use it for personal use (for non-SU!-customers) and if it matches my DSP. I only want to use current products that are available for purchase

Bashful Blue I'm saving for baby boy cards, I didn't stock up on the cs. But Soft Sky is pretty so I'll get the cs at some point when I need a pale blue. I do have the PTI and MFT sample packs-a good way to check out their colors.

My negative side says they change stuff up to sell more product too!

Since I can't throw anything away, I use anything I have...new or old. I am a demo so I have to use current stock for workshops, but my family and friends get a mishmash.

Since I'm not a demo, I am not restricted to any colors for any reason. I LOVE colors, though, so when SU came up with their "In Color" idea, I bought the card stock, ink pads, reinkers and markers. I'm not big on DP, so got little of that. These last few years when they went through package change for inks pads (I hate, hate, hate the new pad design), then changed the ink pads themselves along with the ink makeup (meaning the reinkers were different for some colors), stopped making all individual markers and then changed up the core colors, I gave up. I bought none of the last In Colors, even though I really think there are some pretty colors there as I figured I could spend my money in better ways. I'm happy as a lark using my retired colors, some of which I stocked up one when they retired as I love them so and have the inks, markers and reinkers to go with them. When they sadly are gone, I will do with what I have. I think changing colors so often is a money-making ploy I'm not buying into.

Some of my favorite colors are retired and there is no way I'm going to stop using them, at least not until I run out.

Close to Cocoa is a great color for so many different Ideas. I am down to my last few pieces and will very upset since I have not found anything that comes close to it. I also love the retired pastels for those certain cards that need those colors. I make and sell cards at seasonal markets so I go through a lot of cardstock and love my SU for the quality.

Tonight I needed a brighter, trendy green. I found some really old dsp in my stash that had a perfect design and it was the perfect color, but I couldn't identify it!

Turned out it was Kiwi Kiss. I never had any KK card stock, I do have the ink pad...YAY!

I have never used that ink pad and it was still incredibly juicy! How old would it be? Five-six years? Goes to show ya how you never know when you will need those "old" supplies.

I love, love, love using my older paper and stamps!
