Default TLC461 O (rigami) Christmas Tree {12/23/13}

O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree!!

Today I have two trees for you - an easy (I promise) origami one, which looks sweet on a card and also makes a good name-card for a Christmas place setting. If you don't think origami is your thing, I also have a simple accordion-folded tree, which I found online ( here ) when I was looking for a video for the origami tree: I've created an on-site tutorial for you .

I've attached photo tutorials for both (in PDF and Word format, at the bottom of the post), and have also added a You-Tube video showing the origami one for those who find it easier to watch a video.

Origami Christmas tree - (Google Docs PDF)
Notes:
The finished size of your tree depends on the size of paper you start with.
* I used a 6" square for my photo tutorial, which gave me a 5 1/4" tall tree. For the one on my card I used a 4 3/4" square because it was what was left of a piece of larger paper ;), and it gave me a 4 1/4" tall tree. I've made them even smaller, too, to use on ATCs.
* You definitely need paper for this rather than thin card - the paper on my card is paper from My Mind's Eye. Wrapping paper will fold well, too. Cardstock is too heavy to crease well.
* Using a bone folder will help you make accurate creases.

For the accordion-folded tree, the size is really up to you. Again, I just used up scraps .
The free-standing tree was made from a scrap 5" high by 3" wide.
Word and PDF files below, link to Google Docs PDF file HERE
Score your card every 1/2" and fold.
You'll need something like the Crop-a-Dile to punch a hole in the centre of the pleated card.
Open it out and trim from the bottom corners to the top to make an almost-triangle.
Thread a bamboo skewer through and fold the tree up a bit.
For the trunk I used some kraft card rolled round and round the skewer, and since I had trouble getting it to stand I used a glue-dot to add a button base. If you had a small cotton reel you could use that as a pot, and leave more of the skewer as the actual trunk.

Decorate your tree .
For a hanging one you can thread ribbon or cord through the punched holes.

Have fun, whether you make just one tree or a little forest!!

When you've created your card upload it to the gallery and then come back and link it here so we can all see it! You get more views and comments if you link on the thread .

If you're not sure how to link a card to this thread, here's how:
1. Open 2 windows or tabs: one window for your card and one for this thread.
2. In this thread, click on reply and type anything you want to show before the link.
3. Go to your card window. Highlight the address for your card. (It says www. splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/showphoto..... and so on)
4. Click EDIT. Click COPY
5. Go back to this thread. Click PASTE.

I'd like to wish everybody a happy and peaceful Christmas, and safe travel for those who have journeys to make.

I'm in work this morning, but I'll be able to check emails on my phone so if anyone has a problem related to this challenge, post on this thread and I'll respond. I may not be able to actually do anything till I get home ;-).

Default TLC461 Starry Night

Thanks Sabrina. This WAS a challenge for me. I said I had not done origami before, but I suddenly remembered I have some pretty stars made from wrapping paper and dipped in wax hanging on my tree. I guess they would be considered origami. This one was easier. Here's my card.

Heart TLC461 Love Ingredient

Sabrina- that tutorial was super helpful, I used a smaller square cut from a metallic green envelope- and paired this with SU's Flaky Friends for my heat embossed tree. Thought these mini trees and reindeer stickers worked well here Finished with a black and white gingham ribbon border, red heart, and sentiment. Here's Love Ingredient

I'm working tomorrow too - bummer. Just sneaked upstairs to finish off covering a notebook for my sister, and I'm not done yet with wrapping either!
