I stopped by Archivers this past weekend for their free make-n-take. While there I was going to pick up the gift card for my stocking for the hubby. Archivers is no longer selling gift cards! I was surprised. I know they have filed for Chapter 11, but I'm just concerned for them. Not sure what I'll do if they go under. Mike's and Jo's are the only stores left around here. They don't cut it for me!
Which store were you at in MN? Mall of America and Coon Rapids are closing. Am not sure when. If it was one of the stores that are closing, it wouldn't surprise me that they aren't selling gift cards. Was at the Maple Grove store on Sunday for a class and I (think) I saw gift cards at the register. Maple Grove is not one of the stores closing.
Also, if in MN, The Paper Depot (downtown Minneapolis) is "adjusting inventory." 75% off anything in the store. Was there today. If you are looking for decent cardstock and matching envies, they had tons left.
From past experience be wary of buying Gc's from a company in bankrupcy. I bought one from Block Buster when they first went into bankrupcy. I'd forgotten they had filed and they weren't supposed to be selling them any more so consider yourself lucky they said no. I was never able to use the GC or get $$ back, we big time fell thru the cracks of bankrupcy litigation.

What exactly do you think "adjusting inventory" means? Are they overstocked, or are they making room for new inventory, or are they having business issues as well? It makes me sad to think how many great stores have gone out of business. I support actual stores whenever possible and only shop online when there is a compelling reason to do so. More and more lately it feels like a losing battle to keep stamping stores in business, and it is both frustrating and sad.
While looking through my desk yesterday, I found an Archiver's gift card. The receipt is still in the gifty envelope with the GC. I bought this while on a trip out-of-state, and promptly forgot about it.
Since I had already read this thread, my hopes were pretty much dashed as far as using it. The nearest Archiver's is nearly 4 hours away. So, I called the Cedar Park, TX Archivers, explained what I have, and asked if my GC was still valid. They said, "Yes, it is!" I cannot use it online at the 'annex' though.
If you have a GC you can still use it, Archivers is not selling GC because they have filed chapter 11 and the judge doesn't want or allow Archivers to presale merchandise (the GC) because their financial status is being checked on every quarter and is trying to protect the consumer by not selling the GC and the consumer being stuck with a useless GC if the company liquidates.

Archivers is closing. I received an email today stating after 14 years they are closing. They have not set a date for all stores to close. They did however say to watch for emails in the future.
