I understand what you are saying about the white edges of the paper. I don't know what you can do if that bothers you. I've seen many, many tutorials for altered comp books, and they all have the white paper edges.
When you think about it, the edges on most books that are published are just the color of the pages themselves, and not colored. I would be inclined to focus on making the covers of the books as lovely as possible, and just not pay attention to the edges of the pages.
Others don't usually look at our projects with the same critical eyes as we do ourselves.
