Looking for ideas and suggestions
My hubby just gave the ok for me to take over the basement for my new craft room. We have lived here 15 years and don't know why I never thought of it. Kids getting older and not getting used like it should be. YAY!!!!! 840 Square feet of crafting. I am looking for ideas on everything. Working from a clean slate. Looking for ideas for wall color, flooring, crafting stations, storage ideas. Anything you got. I have a small room right now so I do have things that work for me that I will bring into the new room.

best advice. think and plan how would like to store each type of supplies. this way you only need to buy containers once.if possible look into the rods from IKEA that everyone loves to hold/store punches.
I'm on pinterest, gayla truett-noel. I have storage board. you can also search pinterest for more.
another board I have is "foam core ". I see no reason to spend more than you have to.
lights, outlets both more than you think you need
a sink to wash/clean up if you already have plumbing in place

Thanks. I have those rods from IKEA for the punches. I also have their DVD holders that hold my ink pads. I think I have everything I need for storage but just nosing around to see what works best for others. Want to try and arrange everything right the first time. Basement is already mostly finished so outlets (lots) are already there. Hubby installing recessed lighting and there is a full sink as there is (won't be for long) a kitchen down there. I am heading to pinterest to check out your storage board. Thanks!!!!

just read another idea . place post its where you would place everything. Sit at your placed workspace. Sit back and think if this works for you. Give it a few days. Change post its-instead of moving furniture.
I also have and LOVE alex drawers from IKEA. The drawers are shallow.but each will fit
1. punches
2. Wooden stamps. 2 layers. When you store them in a drawer. Heres a great tip I just learned this year. Place small stamps on the bottom not large ones. This way you just need to lift up a largecstamp, not lots of little ones. Genius!
3. One layer of wheels
4. 2 layers of background stamps
5. You can lay layers of larger paper in

In a basement space I think I'd go for lighter colours where possible. It sounds like you are almost there though.
I am very jealous and look forward to some photos.

I have some great pics of craft rooms and storage ideas
Craft Rooms
Think about how you want to use the space -
Room to stamp with friends?
like to stand up or sit down?
different stations for cutting, big shot area, etc
are you a hide everything person or like things out in the open w/easy access
what is your budget? spend $ on the most important things
try to repurpose - a coat of paint can do wonders
do you like girly-girl, distressed, CAS rooms and decorations?
I prefer adjustable shelves because I like to change things around based on what I'm doing at the time. Be sure to have room for growth in your storage containers/areas because you'll probably never find another one of whatever it is a year from now.
What fun you're going to have starting with a clean slate.

Thank everyone. I am so darn excited I just want to be in there already. I'll have to check out that alex cabinet. Still haven't decided on a color but I did decided to do the carpet tiles that have the built in padding. I thought easier in case I have a spill or rug gets ruined in a spot then I only have to pop out a tile and pop in a new. LOVE the post it idea too!

I too am finishing my basement as a craft room and asked for help from the SCS community. The number one comment that I got was to make sure you had the best lighting possible! Good luck. There are so many decisions that you have to make!!!

I agree with keeping the sink. Some things are too large to wash in a bathroom sink. I kept the kitchenette area in my basement and put a stainless steel single sink in. I'm planning on washing my silhouette mats in it. I also have a microwave next to my sink.
We painted the walls yellow with white trim to keep it light.

Getting more and more excited. The lighting is officially done. Definitely don't have to worry about not enough lighting. My hubby went crazy. I am keeping the sink. It is a nice kitchen size one. Have to do something about the cabinet though. It's oak color and EVERYTHING else will be white. Ceramicat1, I wasn't even thinking about the microwave. I do have one I can use but it is REALLY big. It does mean that I can use the $$$ I would have spent on one somewhere else ;)

Here are my suggestions. As always, it will depend on what works for you because we are all different. I used ALL my wall space.
1. Way up high, I have a set of PVC gutters that I put my ribbon in. I like this because I can pull it down to my work area and cut and keep going or stand up and take the spool out or add more w/o having to remove an entire row of ribbon.
2. Old cassette tape holders. I have 2 that I use for all my stamp pads right in front of me. On top of them, I line up some of my punches.
3. To my right I store all my sizzix original dies in a small wooden shelf that also holds the rest of my larger punches.
4. Next to my sizzix shelf, I have some pegboard that I hang anything that can hang for easy visibility. I like that I can reorganize this as I need it.
5. Countertop-runs along one entire wall and part way along another one and butts into another large wooden shelf. It is just the right height to sit at but I can also house MANY rolling carts underneath where I store adhesive, tools, rolling paper carts for 8 x11 and 12x12 paper.
6. To my left, there are more shelves hung that contain my markers in containers, many embellishments like brads, buttons, eyelets, etc. and other miscellaneous items.
My space is not fancy but it is functional. I went cheap with organization so I could buy more crafting goodies ;-) I am excited for you to have your own fun, creative space. Enjoy!

Update time. Recessed lighting and drop ceiling was finished. Started installing carpet tiles yesterday and did some painting today. I LOVE the color!!!! Have to do the painting a little at a time as I can. Can't do the whole thing all at once. I have Lupus and the shoulders and elbows just won't allow it these days. Worth the pain and fatigue though. I'll snap some pictures tomorrow and try and figure out how to post them on here. Never done that before.
