Default RIT dye ... dying a sweater ????

Hi ....

OK, all you crafty people .....

I am helping a friend dye a sweater for a Halloween costume. It's been years since I used RIT dye (and even then I only used a tiny amount to color some burp rags LOL). Anyhow, I have never taken on something like a bulky knit sweater.... and I hate to have her stain her washing machine w ith that much dye.

She's dying an ivory sweater orange for a Velma/Scooby Doo costume. What are your tips for dying? Use an old bucket to soak? Where do you pour out that much dye when you're done?? Down the sink ???? Does it stain the washer when you wash it out???

Any dying tips would be appreciated. I thought of having her get a big disposable turkey pan and soaking in there.

I'm realizing my dream of working with animals every day. I love being a Registered Veterinary Technician !!!
