Default Gelato Markers?

I was on Pinterest the other day and I was wondering if anyone knows about or ever used these pens? Are they similar to Copic Markers?

Here's a link. Scroll down a bit to see the Gelato Markers. Also has a tip that they are same product as one called gel sticks, marketed for kids crafts. Much cheaper than Gelato Markers which they have renamed and remarketed to crafters.

Here's a link to the gel sticks:

They really are not markers or pens. They look like a little chapstick that you turn the base, and the product is raised up. They are thick, the consistency is kind of waxy and soft/smooth. They are soluble in water. However, they are best for backgrounds or coloring large flowers, etc. You cannot use them for detail work, since the tip is so thick.

I love Splitcoast... just saw a technique somewhere that used gelatos. "Gelatos??? What's that?" I said to myself. and right here I find the answer. Thanks ladies!

We have a basic Gelato tutorial in the resource section. You can find it HERE .

Lydia used one in her Bokeh Background tutorial as well.

We also have a Product Review that included Gelatos.

You'll LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE the Gelatos once you've tried them!!! They're just FUN & give you a sense of FREEDOM in your crafting! I don't use mine as often as I would like! Need to change that!

If you've ever had watercolor crayons, Gelatos are similar in effect, but much softer and more spreadable and I would say the color stays more vibrant even with the water application.

I was glad to see these posts because I just purchased this product. I can't wait to find some time to use it in my art journaling.

I went to the site Buggainok mentioned and followed all the links...wow!!! Thanks for posting - my time spent looking at all the stuff was WELL worth it. I recently bought some Gelatos and Big Brush Pens because I discovered the Bokeh technique on the SCS weekly newsletter a couple of weeks ago. Now I feel way more eqipped to actually use them. Thanks again

That is actually something that surprises me about how they are marketing this product, Dmcg. You mentioned that you also got the Big Brush Pens. When they market their product, they don't point out how they can go hand in hand. I wish that I had known that prior to my ordering the gelatos. I would have liked to have gotten them together. I now will have to do that. Also, in one of the videos here, it was stated that the gelatos work better with rubber stamps and I would agree with that. Yet, in their packaging, they usually include a clear stamp...which work...but not as well as the rubber in my estimation. I think that the company needs to talk to some of the experts on SCS before marketing their products...LOL!

I agree. It surprises me that these companies don't have surveys put out or focus groups or interviews or something to see how to market their products. I am soooooo glad for SCS and people like you who take the time to post

Gelatos are often packaged with other mixed media materials, including Big Brush markers : Faber-Castell - Mix and Match Collection - Mixed Media Sampler - Blue - 5 Piece Set

I bought the starter set and there were no markers in it. That is where I would have expected to find them. They did have a spray mister, and a few other odds and ends....but I am talking about the sets that they are selling. Instead of putting in the clear stamps, it would make more sense (to me) to make the sets with the coordinating markers. But, that is merely my point of view as a consumer who wants to purchase the product conveniently.

It HAS ALWAYS BEEN about the ALMIGHTY DOLLAR! HOW to get YOU to part with yours, with very little trouble to them!!!! SERIOUSLY, I haven't seen much that has been about the consumer for a VERY LONG TIME! SAD TO SAY, AND OH SO TRUE!!!!! As a consumer it pays to RESEARCH FIRST & not be the consumer that has to have whatever it is FIRST! THINK ABOUT IT, READ REVIEWS, WAIT!!!!
